niteowlpaul
I was just wondering how many people have become a Trained Person so that they can sell what they shoot to a game dealer?
Dunkield
I have, so that's 1 At the risk of being pedantic, It's Trained Hunter
niteowlpaul
On the regulations I have been sent from Derbyshire Enviromental Health it states a Trained Person because it doesnt have to be a hunter who has examined the body so long as they are capable of saying that it is fit for human consumption, but I think it depends on which related article you read Edited February 21, 2013 by niteowlpaul
Actionpigeons
I sell most for hawk food but some go to a guy that does monthly game cooking courses Edited February 22, 2013 by Actionpigeons
sitsinhedges
They're checked by a vet at the game dealers anyway. Why would I want to train to sell them dead game?
niteowlpaul
All the reading i have done on the new regs say that you cant sell them to a game dealer unless they have paperwork from a trained person/hunter saying they are ok
sitsinhedges
I've never had any bother. I'd be interested in how much it costs to be trained to sell a 25p pigeon.
niteowlpaul
The cost of the course varies but its around £
sitsinhedges
The cost of the course varies but its around £120 That's a lot of pigeons, don't think many will be bothering with that.
Browning
My game dealer started making noises about this years ago, so I did the Large and Small game Meat course run by Lantra so he could carry on taking my Pheasant and Duck.. Anyone that has done DSC 1 will be covered for Large Game Meat. I'm not sure how keen other game dealers are, but mine is very selective about who he takes wild game meat from. Dunkield
In fairness I think if the price was right to them most game dealers will take game off you anyway. £1/lb for venison for instance, just think what that is worth butchered. kyska
Why would you need to be a 'trained person' if you're selling pigeon and rabbit? FSA chains don't require it.

sitsinhedges
vet at the game dealers? ? ? Apparently yes, they go thru the trays of birds that come in and check their general condition before they are processed.
kent
Well when I did my level 1 it didn't exist. I signed that I had read the guidance notes and they sent me a new level 1 (well after I had my level 2) that said I was now a trained hunter. To be fair its box ticking BS like anything government- how many of those horse meat traders will have had every credential going. BTW I wont personally buy wild venison shot by anyone I don't know or any small game dressed out. So add me to the list I have a bit of paper that says I can do it! How many level 1 stalkers can find all the lymphatic system with their own knife without guidance? Or identify possible issues correctly? not very many from my experience, you do well if they don't drag it through the nearest cow pat after opening it up so wide you could get inside
M ROBSON
I have all the certificates required. I also had to register my chiller with the local council as a primary food producer.

mudpatten
It`s easy to vet pigeons for human consumption, just reject the ones with hooves.
