Big Marty
Who cares what the Pope or the Catholic Church thinks, this is not the 16th or 17th century so the church have no say or sway in policy what so ever. Bout time the church became a shrinking violet and got its self on a righteous path first and joined the 21st century, glasshouses and stones. They can't even clean their own house. Only a bunch of paedos could think abortion after rape is wrong. Gods voice on earth but picked by mortals from mortals. No fool like an old fool. Figgy As a catholic I find that offensive your trying to say that we are all child molesters, all 1.2BILLION of us..get real..I couldn't care less who owns the Falklands, and find it a bit odd that the pope came out and said that but its in the paper so it must be TRUE YEAP... jasper3
The Falklands have been bouncing between England, spain and france for years... the Portuguese where the 1st to map it around 1522 then john davis (english commander of the ship called Desire) landed there and named it Davis land.... and then Richard hawkins at the time of Queen Elizibeth the 1st landed there and named it maiden land in 1776 the spanish set sail from what is now called argentina with 1400 men to take the islands, in 1776 the british left leaving a plaque saying the islands where under british sovreignty in 1811 the spanish left leaving a plaque saying the islands where under spanish sovereignty and so the fight went on around the 1540s the catholic church was run from Rome and still is today , but king Henry the 8th wanted a divorce from katherine of Arogan which was denied by Rome, so he started the church of England, Ever since then England was looked upon as a Heretic country.... thats why the pope don't like us much and supports Catholic countries ..thats a very simple explanation

cant hit rabbits 123
First and foremost, I must say that I am disappointed by what the new Pope has said and I believe that so long as the Falklands wishes to remain British, we should and will defend them. However, I must say that, as a Catholic, I am thoroughly saddened by the poor attitudes, generalised statements and sheer ignorance displayed by some members posting here. Some of the comments made here are down right offensive, and if they were made against another religion or group of people there would shouts of racism from across the board. Boromir
Do you expect sympathy? A few bad apples? So instead of chucking the few bad apples out they covered it up and moved the offenders to other areas, for them to do the same again. As I keep saying in similar threads ban all religion. Sorry mate but I can't see where the hate is. Somebody has stated that the Pope would be better off dealing with the child abuse (historical and current) in the Roman Catholic Church than poking his nose into everybidy elses business. Nobody has said that all adherents of the RC church are paedophiles, just that it is prevelant amongst those who minister to their parishoners. Cannon
Some of the posts here should warrant banning from this forum. I find it ridiculous that this thread has been allowed to continue. As for your comment pastiebap, are you incapable of reading between the lines? The opinions expressed on this thread from certain individuals need no explanation to determine what they are hinting at. Religion and politics should be kept off these forums. If you want to express your ill thought out opinions, do it somewhere else. For those who have tried to have a reasoned argument, fair play. I prefer to deal with what is actually written instead of what people feel that the post implies, too many people in this country like to read between the lines which has resulted in decades of hate and mistrust. But I think you have a fair point about religion and politics. You fail to have missed my point though, just because you are RC does not make you a paedophile, any more than being Irish Catholic makes someone a terrorist. Royboy
Because we were the greatest empire. ordnance
Fair points, but the opinions expressed by others on this thread would suggest otherwise. I can see where you are coming from and see why you would find some remarks objectionable. But if people have posted remarks criticising the catholic church regards pedophiles etc then there is only one organizing to blame. And that's the church from top to bottom for not dealing with the child abuse issue and covering it up for decades. The only thing the hierarchy of the church was interested in was trying to cover up abuse and put the church first and the children abused last. PS I know a lot of catholics that would agree. Example. Quote. Wilfrid Fox Napier, the Catholic Archbishop of Durban, who helped appoint newly-elected Pope Francis, said in a radio interview here that people who were abused during childhood and became paedophiles were not criminally responsible for their actions in the same way as somebody "who chooses to do something like that". "From my experience paedophilia is actually an illness. It is not a criminal condition, it is an illness," he told BBC's 'Radio 5 Live'.
