ziplex
Right, here goes...........i've decided on the above gun in 30" multi choke, and until I dug a little deeper I assumed I had all questions answered but it appears not. I have been browsing through the Beretta catalogue and looking on their web site and it does appear that the gun isn't available as a sporter. All information now points to it being more of a field gun and the weight is stated at 6.8lb, I have been under the impression that this gun was a 'sporter' with a weight of 7.6lb, but nearer to 8lb in mag' tests, as stated for the White Onyx, SP2 etc. I have put a deposit down and typically have found the above after the fact. Has anybody got a standard Silver Pigeon (ie: grade 1) that can help me out here? I've been sold this as a sport version which appears isn't available?...I know it's a fine line between the two. My main concern relates to recoil when busting clays, as i've not shot with the gun and not knowing what to expect.
the last engineer
get yourself a Browning ziplex , you'll save all the trouble, look for an ultra XS 325 , a 425 or 525, great shooting platform buddy mmany advantages i've found from shooting and owning both Martin
njc110381
I'm looking at the catalog myself, and find it hard to work out. The field spec sp2 has double triggers, but the sporter spec sp2 is a single trigger. In which case, the difference is weight, engraving style, choke type and barrel bore (the sporters having overbored barrels and slightly different chokes). Do you not like the engraving on the sp2 sporter? That is the only bit that actually looks different to me

That is the only bit that actually looks different to me I quite like the SP2 but it's not stocked at any of the 'local' places, more expensive too and i'm happy with the styling on the standard SP, I really do like the look of the SP3....but again more expensive and where do you draw the line. I budgeted for approx £1000 hence my first choices were SP or White Onyx. I would like to hear from owners of the SP for clay use as Beretta clearly list it as a game/field gun re: the weight. The gun doesn't feel atall light to me so maybe i've got it wrong but i've no experience with it so unsure of what to expect! ....the gun is clearly advertised as a 'sporter' though?! tle.........I use a borrowed Miroku but not too keen on it, hence the decision on the SP. Marc M
I own the Silver Pigeon S and mine is a really rather nice, lightweight game gun with fixed chokes. Believe it or not I use it mostly for clay busting, and have had many shooters comment on how amazing it feels to shoot given that is is SO lightweight. You hardly notice you are carrying the thing and if used with 28g loads I've never found recoil a problem and I've shot quite a few 150 bird days. Not that heavier loads are a problem mind, I've fed it 36g BB shot for foxing and it performed faultlessly again, a truly remarkable gun. Each to their own I suppose, it suits me fine and I certainly won't be parting with it. Lovely gun. M

M Thanks Marc........nice to hear for sure, i'll be tempted to put a few through the gun, (they have one that can be demo'd), prior to finalising the deal tho'. This weight/felt recoil scenario is new to me so just putting the feelers out, should I have not noticed the weight of the gun in the lit' I wouldn't be asking, assumption eh? Ishapoor
Zip Think that The Beretta Gallery might have a second hand SP3 30" sporting for sale at a little over your budget.... Cheers
