Graham M
Anybody got one?...opinions please lads. (or do I wait for the new Varmint Super at the end of the year?) Yes, got one in .243. Nice rifle but not as good (IMO) as the older 595. The stock doesn’t have that nice cheek-piece as the Sako does, and although the fore-end is beautiful the butt end is very anaemic. Shoots OK but I wish I had saved up that couple of hundred more and bought a Sako. Nice and light to carry though. G.M.
Browning
Deako, I've had one in .243 for about 18 months and can not fault it at all. I like it so much I went and bought the same gun in .270 as well. Can't go wrong for the money.
Big Dog
Can I chip in a question T3 Varmint. That has a heavier barrel that the lite, am I corrent But the impression from some posts is that it is still quite light Is that the case Are you meaning that you find it OK to walk/stalk with If so then would this be a could buy for the 6.5x55 which will get a lot of use on the range and some deer stalking. Sorry, didn't mean to steal the post but I think my questions are relevant to the original post.
Hunter
I have a .222 T3 varmint (the baby cal ) Its a great rifle, not that heavy. Yes it does have a heavy varmint barrel, but the action and synthetic stock are very light, so overall its not heavier then your average rifle. For range work, the varmint barrel is a good choice as it deals with the heat from multiple shots better then a thin barrel, and will not warp quickly. Downsides, I think the bolt is huuuge on the .222, as its the same size as .338 mag from what I was told. The synthetic stock will require some work to get it fully free floating. This is tricky as its harder to work with then wood..

I have the “Hunter†which has a thin barrel and Walnut woodwork, and it is absolutely fine for carrying around all day. The only problem is that I put a T8 on the front…….and doubled the weight of the bloody gun. G.M.

The Varmint is a good bit heavier than the lite. It does feel front heavy. But, I went for the Varmint. I'll not be shooting from a vehicle but lugging it around by my own power for 2-3 hours each night I'm out so I'll let you draw your own conclusions about that Best thing I could say to you is to get both rifles in your own hands and see what you think yourself

Big Dog
Thanks guys. At least you have given me food for serious thought. As I won't can the 6.5 the varmint may be worth some investigation. See ya
