-Mongrel-
ARRRRGGGHHH!!!! It's driving me mad!!! I need a works vehicle, ie small van. I need a shooting vehicle, ie 4wd. I need something I can chuck the dogs/kids in occasionally. I do NOT need to be forever unloading one load of gear to get another load in!!! I'd like a reasonably sane MPG and reliability. And I'm fairly certain that all of the above is a pretty unreasonable ask! But, can anyone think of a vehicle that will cover most of the above considerations if not all? I think a crew cab L200 or similar is probably a decent compromise, but is it possible to ease the MPG above 30 with a diesel chip and a couple of choice mods? I had decided on a Nissan X-trail, but think I'm going to end up taking the work gear out to get the dogs in as I suspect I'd end up folding the seats down to get gear in. Suggestions on a postcard, or maybe better on here. Can someone preserve my sanity wih an inspired suggestion? -Mongrel-
How about this.... Interesting, didn't know they even made one! Same problem as the X-trail though, the load space is probably inadequate.

HDAV
Yeti or if a works van.... Vw caddy 4x4 crew van? http://www.whatvan.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1221&Itemid=
four-wheel-drive
That VW looks quite nice if you could afford to buy one I just had a look at one on Youtube.
-Mongrel-
The VW caddy looks very nice but alas, is out of my budget, not old enough yet. I have about 4k to play with. Anybody tried getting an L200/Hilux/Navara diesel chipped? How much difference did it make, particularly to economy?
HDAV
THink you might struggle even with a pick up (how much gear do you need to keep in it and how secure?
-Mongrel-
THink you might struggle even with a pick up (how much gear do you need to keep in it and how secure? Quite a lot of tools etc. Fits in a car based van. Security? Reasonable. I have secure overnight parking. HDAV
You can satisfy 2/3 requirements easily a crew cab pick up is the simple answer or a 4x4 with decent boot, shogun/trooper etc. does it need to be a van for tax purpose? VW do a transporter synchro (4x4) but silly money......... What about a 4x4 estate? V70 AWD? Passat? Probably no better on fuel than a pick up and worse on load space. -Mongrel-
No, it doesn't need to be a van. A pick up looks more and more likely, just need to get the mpg sensible.

Medic1281
I used to get 32.8 mpg as an average out of a 57 plate navara. It was possible to get 38.0 mpg on a 2hr run sat behind a hgv all the way!
-Mongrel-
Skoda yeti Too small in the load space.
