My dog has been savaged

Recommended Posts

How do I stand legal wise, if he refuses to pay the vet bill.

Take him to court....make sure you have lots of photos of the injuries with date stamp (today's newspaper in shot etc) , and of any of clothing etc you were wearing covered in blood, keep phone records of you ringing vets, police, dog warden, who you spoke to etc. Edited by HDAV

Just out of interest, is there any dead certain way of sorting a pit bull? The pulling the legs apart thing is supposed to be a myth.

Apart from looking for "a tool" (something sharp or heavy nearby) what is the advice?

Dog fighting men used to use "breaking sticks" to pry the jaws. Apparently effective, even when the jaws were locked.

this morning I was out with the spaniel and a dog appeared from our of nowhere and attacked my dog. Luckily the other dog was seen off and no damage had been done. So if the owner can't or won't pay up where do go then? Small claims court?

If the owner denies it's his dog or refutes that the damage was caused in this incident how do you prove it?

Very admirable that you kept your cool, I am not sure I would have been able to if it had been my spaniel attacked. I hope the dog recovers and has no lasting damage.

I remember when I was a child at a village cricket match, a pit bull / staffie thing stole the football we were playing with and destroyed it and then turned on a young boy, a guy came over a whacked it with his cricket bat (as SS Jumbo so a heavy bat as well). He hit it in the head really hard, it just shook its head and wandered off as if nothing had happened!

Choking or finger up the bum?

Is that really the best advice out there?

Jeeez sounds like a night out with Billy.

Classic!!! threres people int he world who would pay good money for that kinda soddy treatment Mungler lol

though i think a decent stick or a size 11 harkila boot would suffice in most cases i know i cured my mates 12 month old english bulldog for humping my leg be picking him up by the scuff of the neck and saying NO!!! lol he was so shocked he is better behaved around me than he is with his owners lo my mates mrs says she wants Lenny the bulldog to come to boot camp training with me lol l :)

Snap neck to the left!!!! Horrid little thing should be on a lead

I'd love to see you try would have no impact on one and odds are they are more powerful than you. As suggested a stick in the jaw and pry it open is how the fighting people do it.

As for getting vets fees back if he won't about all you can do is a small claims case if its logged with the police then it should be straight forward

The training class i attend is run by a man who specialises in aggresive dogs, and apparently sits on an advisory commitee regarding dangerous dogs act and such. He told me if your dog is attacked to drop your own dogs lead and not to pull it away, as an owners usual reaction trying to help the dog is to pull their own dog away from the aggresor, which exposes their back or side to them which prevents your own dog from protecting itself front on. He then advised to basically take a running kick straight into the chest of the aggresor, dont mess about kick for England untill the dog either is dead or gives up and **** off. Dont bend down and try to separate because when protecting itself even your own dog may mistake your intentions out of panic and your arm becomes the new target.

Thankfully ive never had to try this out, and hopefully never will!

If the dog bit you or any person you can inform the police and it would be recorded and if it did it again it would be destroyed.

It's a shame for the dog but personally if that happened to me I would tell the old bill it bit me.

If the dog was put down I wouldn't give a toss.

We invest so much time into our dogs to make them good controllable dogs and to think a powerfully built dog like that could easily kill a gundog.

I would ring them today

Well today my dog is a bit sore but ok, not far off his usual self, the owner of the dog what attacked mine came today, on seeing my dog, he seemed really upset and genuinely sorry for his dogs behavior towards my dog, on watching his reaction, I was reasonably happy to believe him, he promised to keep it on a lead in public, he said he was looking on buying a muzzle for the dog, he said they have had the dog from a pup, it was a present for his son, I have told that If he does that its fine by me, if not I will have no hesitation on reporting the incident to the authorities.

He has allso said he will pay the full ammount of my vets bill, he said he cant afford it all at once, but will pay it in a couple of installments, told him I can live with that, because there is no way I am paying a penny towards it, the dog is back at the vets on tuesday, so will be at his house on tuesday evening to disscuss payment, on this agreement we shook hands and left it at that.

Now that my spanie is laid up for a bit, I can spend more time training my 11 month lab bitch :good:

A Pitbull would just think you were playing with it..... ....don't believe me, try it.

Video on here not so long ago with the copper getting raggled by a Pitbull, had to shoot it in the end.
