-Mongrel-
Strong winds kayboshed yesterdays trip at the eleventh hour, so, with the day booked off we decided to hit the shingle and hunt some bream! Reasonable day fishing wise although the bream were less willing than I'd hoped however a bonus was had while trying out one of the new weedless, soft lure set ups. Never used one before but they are brilliant! You can pull them through weed, over snags and pretty much anywhere else you fancy. Using a sink and draw (well wind) technique, I worked the lure over some weedy submerged rocks, paused to let it drop to the bed, and then wound back into it. As the lure livened up BANG! Fish on! A few frantic minutes later in a strong tide with snags around and it was on the beach. 3lb (and a tiny bit) of dark Bass (all that kelp its been hiding in!) which made its way into the cool box and then onto my plate tonight, and it was LOVELY! oscarsdad
Well done. That is a dark bass. What was the lure? Sounds like something useful where it's snaggy. Edited June 6, 2013 by oscarsdad
-Mongrel-
This particular one was a Yokozuna Lee Minnow, but there are plenty of variants. You basicaly hook the lure but then the point is just nicked back into the lure, the hooks the most important bit to make this work. With the point masked you don't snag anything, but the force of a hit pops it free! As you can see, it works. Henry Gilbey was using similar for Pollock in the last Sea Angler mag. -Mongrel-
That's really bad luck. I only had one cancelled in the last year or so, so that will be at least 8 trips.
karpman
I think maybe they were not filling the spots to be honest. At least on occasion. Karpman
Lord Geordie
Take it as an Omen! A friend of mine's Dad was sick of working on a particular boat many moons ago! This was due to Working condition's and pay etc! When in Harbour he took to asking for work on other ships! He GOT a job onboard a different vessel. A week passed and News came in of a huge accident on a Ship when the Boiler blew. 2 of his old shipmates died in the blast and so would HE if he had still been onboard that ship. Besides you did well pluging for Bass

Besides you did well pluging for Bass Omen indeed. My brother was on the top pair trawling team out of Grimsby for years and then came in one day and said he was fed up with it...the workload was inhuman so he signed off. Took on a new lad from inland somewhere, thought he'd landed his dream job....2nd trip after my bro left, she went down with all hands. Margerita Bojen...knew them all.
