Help installing car radio - please

Have purchased conversion pack/dash adapter/cables and it all fits in and works.

However the car key does not have an accessory switch so when you connect the power cables the pioneer unit is live.

This is the query the instructions say ' When installing this unit in a vehicle without a ACC (accessory) position on the ignition switch, failure to connect the red cable to the terminal that detects operation of the ignition may result in battery drain.'

Problem is I don't know how to connect red cable to ignition.

Any ideas or assistance greatfully received. This model has a removeable face plate.

Cheers

Andy

It's very unlikely your car will not have an ignition live in the stereo loom.

Do you have a 12v tester?

What make car do you have?

The reason there is a warning for battery drain is that you could forget the stereo on when you get out of the car.

simply connect to a circuit only live when ignition on cigar lighter ect

Cheapest option :good:

Just go a buy the adaptor for you car cost about £20 and its just a case of plug into your old stereo plug into the converter and then into your new stereo.

Costs a bit, but also does the job (if one is available for your car that is?)

I would buy a conversion kit, from an audio specialist. On some cars, if you cut into the loom, it can cause faults with the imobiliser unit or other functions.

The kit is not massively expensive, and is a simple case of old head unit out, pop on the adapter and fit the new unit.

Don't buy them from china! I did that only to have to reconfigure the plug. Waste of time and money. Buy from a trustworthy source.
