Dispatching

OK - not all shots are clean shots and I was brought up breaking the neck of winged/spluttering game.

Not the most pleasant question to ask (but nevertheless an integral part of the sport) how do the majority of shooters dispatch their quarry should the shot not be fatal? Would you do as I have been taught or would you use a priest (as I have heard) to deliver a fatally stunning smack to the head (a la trout fisherman)?

Your thoughts please guys'n'gals...

If you break a pheasant's neck, it will bleed and you will spoil the eating of it.

I got a rollickong for stretching the neck of a pheasant the first day I went beating. I was told that the game dealer would not be interested in them if they had bled.

A blow to the head with a priest is all that is required.
