deershooter
The top boys don't all shoot with free cartridges some only get a discount my mate purchased a slab of Kent Velocities last week and on the sporting shot a 82 however with a blooper shell that cost him a bird this was the difference of first or second place which is 1/3 of the extra cost for the year Deershooter
Ttfjlc
I'd settle for an 82!
Dekers
I have shot with the country's best AA DTL shooters I won AA class in single barrel DTL English open in 2005 using Express super comp 7.5 shells ,look at all winners who uses kent velocity or hull comp x no one I reload for club competitions the same load as express super comp and buy factory for registered comp 26 registered comps per year less than 3000 cartridges, cheap cartridges @ £160 per 1000 super comps £209 per 1000 £49 per 1000 difference total out lay diff for the year £147 will this change my life NO IT WONT it's £3 per week less than than a pint per week Shoot the best keep up with the best Deershooter George Digweed, Richard Faulds, Adam Cork, none of the top boys use cheap cartridges It will make little or no difference to the majority of people here if they use the cheapest or most expensive carts! GingerCat
Would spend lots of money on carts unless you were very serious about it. I'm not so drop 150 per 1000 on whatever happens to be about, mainly kent velocity of similar and but a couple of thousand at the same time. Keeps me going for a year and it's consistent. The Mrs like 21g comp x as they are recoil free, fair enough, they don't cost the earth either (and are very good too). Get what suits your budget and also you, and stick to them for a bit is my advice. Chopping and changing don't help when the speeds change or the recoil is higher and you just get disheartened. matone
+1, I have been reliably informed not to get to into the extra speed of these top notch cartridges as the advantage is minimal You may find that the `better` cartridges aren`t faster at all, better patterns usually come from less fast shells. You only get what you pay for and it definitely applies to shells,a little extra cash buys smoother shooting, more consistant ammo.
Ttfjlc
Well here's a question for you deershooter and matone, which cartridge do you find is smooth shooting in the price bracket that your accustomed to? Might care to give some a try (Christmas list )
Ttfjlc
Thing is gingercat I'd love to try 21g comp x but they're hard to get hold of round here

bullet1747
No matter wot the price you pay if you hit the target you hit it ,I used Kent velocity but now use hull 29g 7.5 ,can't see the point in expensive ones just to miss

deershooter
Are you all hard up for £150 per year I have 63 kent velocity shells here to strip down and use the lead that's out of 6 months from the local clay club . Yes if you are shooting a Hatsan Escort at local straw bale shoots anything will do ,If you are shooting registered competition have one pint of beer less per week and shoot the good stuff. Do you all eat smart price and better buy food no didn't think so Deershooter
Will Poon
evening all, getting the gun tomorrow so thought we'd get some cartridges at the same time. It's steel proofed under/over. We'll mainly be using it for clays and ideally a cheaper cart would be preferred, have you any suggestions as to which brand etc to go for? Had a look at ch westons in brighton and they do Velocity carts for 150 quid per 1000 so cheap as they go but are they any good? cheers Get a cartridge that's readily available at your local gunshop/club , easy on the wallet and stick with it, so when you miss you can only blame yourself and not the equipment I'm using a brand called Cheddite Universal trap 8s 28g plastic . If you can get them down where you are give them a try

If you can get them down where you are give them a try I agree 100%I'm not as active shooting clays as I was a few years ago but still AA in sporting. I changed to much less expensive cartridges when my credit card bill arrived and I realised just how much I was spending on shooting ( 15000 plus cartridges per year ) and I my scores didn't change. Too many people worry about cartridges, chokes etc, blaming them for missing when , in reality it's down to competence

Cawdor118
Our club sells "Hull Superfast" 7.5's 27gram cartridges and we have had no complaints even from the superb shots... We get them @£166/1000 in the Highlands.

BaikalsRule90
At the end of the day you are shooting a disc out of the sky. In my opinion you don't really need expensive shells for that. I've been shooting Clays properly for about a year now and not once have I thought having the most expensive cartridges will improve my scores. It's entirely down to where you place the shot. All you are paying extra for is the brand/how pretty the cartridges look. and the density of the lead which is only really important for shooting something that's alive. Budget shells would not sell in there millions if they did not break Clays consistently.
Churchill
Some carts are slightly better than others but they will all break clays if its pointing in the right direction when you pull the trigger, but for a lot of shooters i suggest you learn how to shoot before you worry about the brand of carts you're using. I see so many shooters walk into the stand, Feet and body position wrong, balance wrong, gun hold point wrong, the target is lost even before they call pull. Learn the fundamentals of good shooting and practice, practice, practice. I wouldn't worry about what cartridges you're using until your up to B class in your chosen discipline. A good way of improving is shooting CPSA registered competitions, regards,
