Good ol' Maggie, the best PM that ever was :good:

about the only thing I ever disagree with you on.

We should be building more coal fired power stations instead of closing them. Balls to all that green wind farm carp that costs more than its worth.

If we reopen the pits and pay a pittance in wages then we can give immigrants jobs. We would also get cheaper power.

Better still make prisoners dig it out, we can call it reforming and re educating them with a nice cushy job :good:

Figgy

thats a good idea, a hand washed coal mine

You sir would get a medal if you would tackle that. Would rather stick it in a socket and whistle Dixie

While my plums cooked.

I think anyone who wished to tackle her should be officially classed as a deviant.

Every miner new at the time it was all planned. Her legacy to this country is that we are now sat on coal fields that could produce all the countrys needs for the next 100 to 150 years, yet we are paying through the nose for gas and electricity because we import it from all over europe. DONT try and tell me all about green house gasses when China and India are building coal fired power stations as fast as they can.

Absolutely correct.

I have a quiet chuckle to myself every time I hear champagne socialists dis Maggie thatcher. We would be worse off than Greece if it were not for her.

Folk forget that we had a sabre rattling USSR that could have come rolling across Europe at any time not to mention the nuclear weapons threat. I hate to think what would have happened if we'd had a pathetic socialist windbag like Kinnoch in power instead of the Iron Lady as the Russians respectfully called her.

We might have been invaded and as a result the country full of people from the Soviet Block living here...... Hang on a minute :whistling:

It was Maggie -v- the unions and the unions 'were' killing the country : end of.

Unless anyone has a time machine then I still make it that Maggie had the last word

Yeah she's died, but everyone does at some point.

Remember Scargill would not counter any pit closures at all. As I have posted before, my wife used to audit the NCB and the subsidies were eye watering.

Like all subsidies, it was not sustainable.

People forget just how bad the rabid socialist union grip was and how destructive it was - look what happened to the British car industry. Remember the utterly dreadful and malfunctioning vehicles and how good the cars were being turned out by the rest of the world.

Oh and time has shown how well socialism has worked out in the rest of the world - Eastern block Country and China and so on.

All politicians are liars, always have been.

As for the mines and the reasons for closing? Government wanted the power of the unions curtailed but maybe there was a longer term plan? We are now using gas from Europe, oil from everywhere, all of which will run out or become ever more difficult to extract, so at some point we will be sat on huge coal reserves worth a fortune, our supply will be intact.

It it the same Socialist that went to Court over £12k worth of denied expenses and denied membership of the NUM and was taken to court to by the same union evict him from his subsidised 1.5million (rented at 34k a year flat and bills) flat in London as it was unsustainable to continue asking each member £20 a year to foot the bill
