I rarely wear wellies for shooting/beating/picking up and just wear boots/gaiters. Surely it just works the same way as gaiters are almost the same height as wellies. If ur buying cheap off the shelf u don't really have the choice but ur always better with plus 4's rather than the 2's as the extra bag usually means any water will drip over the top ofur willies/gaiters, and if ur crawling/kneeling when u stand up the wet bits are further down ur leg not on u knees so u don't feel it Being wool surprisingly warm even when wet and generally quite cool even in hot days not always try of modern 'waterproof' trousers I would happily (and have done) wore boots with/without gaiters for shooting or anything else eally don't see a problem with it, obviously on the grouse rare to see a pair of willies.
