Fisheruk
Not much difference to my ears. Different sound though.
Oly
Definitely louder. A lot depends in the quality of the mods compared. Irrespective of the noise from the mod, the bullet is larger and therefore makes more supersonic disturbance therefore creating a louder crack. jimmyb79
As above. Definitely louder. Mine is a browning x bolt with wildcat predator 8. It's quieter than a T3 Lite with T8 mod when side by side but most definitely louder than an hmr.
colin lad
not sure about 223 but my 222 what i guess is not a lot different seems a smoother crack as apposed to the higher pitch crack of the hmr so sounds quieter but with a noise detector would probably be louder if that makes sense. when i 1st got the triple my mate said on hearing the 1st shot that its quieter than his hmr colin

kent
Depends on the load and the moderator used etc, impossible to say. I don't get the bigger bullet thing as a full power hornet in .22 can run quieter than a HMR with a rimfire moderator. Powder burn rate, barrel length, bullet speed were do you stop? At the end of the day a hmr wont do the hmr job and vice versa, so surely its a mute point (no pun intended)
