Good afternoon all,

Not sure if this is in the right section but......

Myself and the father in law are looking to join a rifle target shooting club in the north east. I am hoping to get my own .22lr for both sporting targets and vermin.

I live in ripon father in law in Barnard castle so ideally some where central to both.

I was wondering if anyone if members of or have any knowledge of clubs in the area.

Clubs we are looking at are

Darlington

Tees valley (I think it's called)

Durham

Hartlepool

Bishop Auckland

Any information would be great.

I'm surprised we, at PW don't have a target shooting section.....

Thanks all

Barbican at Durham have a small indoor range (and are section 7 approved as well!). St Giles Yarners in Durham City have a 25m indoor range and shoot anything from air pistol/rifle to black powder and downloaded full bore rifle, same at the Mayfair in Sunderland.

For outdoor full bore rifle all the above clubs use mainly Ponteland range (just North of Newcastle) or occasionally Otterburn ranges. The Mayfair club have a separate full bore section which is the Tyne Valley Rifle Club who are shooting this Sunday afternoon on B range at Ponteland if you want to pop along (be there for 12pm).

There's a club in Bishop Auckland but I have no details for it other than the website, http://www.bishopaucklandgunclub.co.uk/

There's also Darlington Rifle & Pistol Club but the website doesn't work http://darlingtonshooting.org.uk/

Whois query gives this result for the domain name (website)

Registrant's address: TA Centre Neasham Road Darlington Co Durham DL1 4DF

It's the Louisa Sports Centre, the range is used by the Louisa Gun Club and the Consett Historic Rifle Club

I was a member of the Louisa club back in the 80s and 90s and used to shoot small bore rifle/pistol and full bore pistol there a couple of times a week. When my son and I went to see them about joining again in 2006 we were told they had enough members and not to bother!!!. We also applied to the Barbican club but never heard back from them, in the end we joined the Mayfair club in Sunderland instead, much more friendly :)

The Consett club are a nice bunch of guys, shot at the Louisa a couple of times with them as a guest but their fees are VERY expensive :(
