I had one a few years back, it was incredibly accurate and powerful, great for rabbits, pigeons, rats etc. The 80's are heavy rifles, as the cylinder was beefed up to allow tuning to FAC power as you suggested. Solid, well made, will outlive you and me!

Venom arms used to do lots with them, Theoben did a gas ram for them, the world is yer oyster when it comes to tuning an 80. Go for it!

thanks for the replies, made me feel better about buying it. i will probly be uploading pictures after i have been out with it hopefully. would it be worth tuning up to use as an FAC rifle and going through the trouble of application, or would i be best off just keeping it under 12 ? :P

In my opinion, you don't gain a great deal with FAC air guns. A 12ft-lbs rifle will kill at 45 yards when the shooter is good enough, that's plenty far enough to get a lot of bunnies. Good choice with the HW80, it's a classic rifle that has always been well made and was recognised as one of the best hunting guns available in its day :P

It was the weapon of choice of the Late great John Darling - Top bloke - top gun :)
