Cranfield
Norton Anti Virus causes more problems on PC's, that it could ever prevent. It is not only slow loading, it slows everything else down. I don't know anyone (apart from jonrms) who still has it. There are loads of better options and a lot of them are free. tiercel
Panda! Its the one I use and have never had a minutes trouble with it. Stops everything in it's tracks. I was told 3 years ago that as Norton was the most popular antivirus most viruses targeted it. While other antivirus work away in the background and are more effective. Don't know the truth about that but it works for me.
Bradders
A really good anti virus software product is AVAST Home Edition, and it's free. www.avast.com I use it and nothing gets through.....
Lord Geordie
I went for Zone alarm it's never been a problem yet i have had it in for over 2 years now too I bought Norton in 2002 and within 3 month my computer needed formated and windows reinstalled. Sure it's an easy job but it's one i SHOULDN'T have to do because an EXPENSIVE antivirus program is that **** it should be taken off the market. tiercel
BTW if you have Norton on your PC and want to change your antivirus you will have to run this Norton removal tool through your pc before you can install the new antivirus. It will not uninstall in add and remove programs.

LG Zone alarm is not an anti virus programme, its a firewall so will be pretty useless if a virus manages to get through your firewall as your pc wont detect it, unless you are running some sort of windows pre-installed virus scanner. pin
I don't work in PC support, well, I have not done so in many years however people know that I work in IT an assume I can fix their PC for them. I have de-nortoned more PC's than I care to remember, bloated convoluted horribly over complex and badly written drivel that it is. I employed a lad who came from McAfee and he speaks highly of the virus engine (I agree its probably the most consistent out there, with good heuristic ability), he freely admits though the software around it is pants. If it installs for you, you are probably fine - though it can go horribly wrong sometimes
louilester
I've used Norton for years - however in their latest guise it hogs so much processing that my old system takes another 2 minutes to finally boot and stabilise. I have my own PC support business and for a free option - I recommend AVG Free antivirus - you can find this is you run a search on www.tucows.com or www.download.com. However this does not do Antispam or Anti Spyware - for those there are (Free) Mail washer and Lavasoft. I have a service that costs £3 per month for a single PC and £4 /month for up to 3 PC's PM me if your interested. Steve

pin
Aye, but its a software firewall and therefore as much use as a chocolate teapot. Ties with Norton and SpamCop for the worst software ever written by a human being, if indeed it was a human.
