The best shotgun you could buy is one that fits you properly. You'll shoot best that way. If you're talking of class and quality, Boss and Purdey are pretty good (and for £50,000+ they should be!). If you're after a good every day gun, then Browning, Miroku and Beretta are the best and start at about £1000 new. What's your price range?

as far as best shotguns go well thats personal preferance their is many high quality shotgun companys out their having said that some people are equaly happy with something that wouldnt be considerd the best on the market i guess what i am saying is what is the best shotgun for you i would ask how often do you plan to shoot , what style do you fancy and how much do you want to spend . if your budget isnt that high and you want a good all around shotgun for cheep than maybe a remington 870 or a bailkal o/u might be the best shotgun for you, other people on this forum have much more shotgun advis than i do and i am sure some would be more helpful than my self i am more of a rifleman

Good luck and let us know what shotgun you decide to go with :/

Shotguns can't be bought mail order, but there are plenty of websites for dealers who sell shotguns, I assume that's what you mean.

The best thing to do is find a local club, go down and have a look around and see if you can try a few guns to see what works for you.

Buying a gun "blind" is very hit and miss and might cost far more in the long run if it doesn't fit you and needs to be modified (worse case you might have to sell it and buy something else).

Put a post up in the meet up section with your rough location to see if any of the shooters here can help you out .

I personally would not spend more than £1500 on a first gun, what if you dont take to shooting? I shoot with a £500 Beretta even though I am in a position to spend £3-4,000 on a gun, I was looking at Perazzis recently, beautiful guns. I had my gun fit checked last week and my gun fits me so that is that. I will at some point buy a nice sbs though.

??? Your budget could get you a very nice gun, but I also wouldn't spend that much. You can normally get a very respectable gun for under £1000, so spend a bit on coaching and try to get a feel for a few guns before you part with any cash. Try to find a local club with a shop if you have one, they should let you shoot a load of second hand stuff to see what suits you best :good:

EDIT: If there isn't a local one, it's worth making a day of it and travelling to somewhere that has a good range. You'll do much better with any gun that fits you well than you would with a posh one that doesn't!

the best shotgun you can buy is a mossberg maverick 88, haha, its the best for general pest control as a cab gun, or gun the you dont mind banging about and putting on a rack in your pickup during a working day

also on an after though dont buy mailorder, try and support your local gun shop, be patient and see if they can order in the gun for you, it takes longer but it helps you build a good bond with them and then the more of a freindly rapore you build up the more doors it may open to you!!

and by mail order i dont mean literal mailorder you know what im refering to!
