fletcher1004 Posted March 6, 2014 Report Share Posted March 6, 2014 I've recently managed to secure myself shooting (pottering) rights on Salisbury Plain. It's been a lot of letter writing and tooing and frowing but it's been worth it. It's not the whole 300,000 acres of it but focused mainly on the areas of penning and cover crops as well as walked up/rough areas. I've now got all the vermin shooting I could possibly want both roosting and decoyed as some of the areas are farmed. Also permitted to shoot limited amounts of game in season And a large stretch along the River Avon so the opportunity for some ducks!! The morale of the story is don't give up at the first hurdle, often an initial rejection is just to see if your keen enough to fight for it! But with a permit from range control and a briefing detailing what you should do in the event of seeing any unexploded ordinance you can get access to these areas when they are not in use.
