henry d
the council will use the lowest (crappiest firm) tender. SSE are getting the trades sorted and the council set the ball rolling for tenants first and owners next. SSE are doing this as part of carbon offset and we get a survey done in the next week or so. Fisherman Mike
Im thinking of having it done on the government grant scheme but some one told me dont do it because it can affect your house price (ie reduce the price of your house!) what i want to know is whats the pros n cons of this insulation? Just make sure the Insulated Render System is approved by the British Board of Agrement http://www.bbacerts.co.uk/ and the installer similarly. Avoid any that are not even if they have a written testimony from Mrs Jones down the road and especially if they offer too good to be true incentives. (They usually are) BBA is your guarantee for peace of mind and will be approved automatically by Local Authority Building Control and Insurers. If you do have it done make sure your Loft insulation is up to current u value requirements also otherwise you will not get the full benefit. Heat rises and will find another way to dissipate itself through poor weather stripping or more likely than not inadequate loft insulation. If you only have six inches ( ooh err missus ! ) stick another 6 on top and bring it up to 300mm total you will feel the benefit of this. Also make sure that this summer you double check all of the weather stripping and draft excluders on each door and window. External insulated render systems, done correctly will add value to your property and increase the buildings EPC.
