secret-squirrel
I have had the gun about a year ai bought it 2nd hand but have not used it as much as id of liked to . But when I have always felt the gun was never as powerful as my old s200 . I now no why !!!!!! Got it chronographed and it's just over 9ftLB that was a kick in the ********. The gun shop said £30-40 the try and get it up to nearly 12ftlb . If it's a easy ""tune "" this has got me thinking is it possible to save the £40 ? countryman
If the gun shop said it would be 30 to 40 quid let them do it, it will be done right and legal, money well spent. Chris
hunterdave
30-40 is fair and the easy option, but if you like to tinker there's Some good YouTube vids showing how to tune your ultra, but make sure you chrono it after to make sure your legal. Chris I understand what your saying about legal but not always done right, depends who does it, just stripped my Fac rapid 7 for a service and this was regulated and Fac rated before I bought it by a well known air rifle tuner and some of the quality of the work was poor, so make sure you take it to the right place preferably a recommendation of someone that has had work done before

Thanks for the replies . I'm no gunsmith or engineer but but I can pick things u.p and learn things pretty easy . My ultra is the dual cocking / loading version I'm sure there's a name for it but I don't no it . And when you take the stock of it has a plate behind the hammer spring . That's pops of and reveals a Allen key bolt . (I think mines the version before the "anti tamper" ) . My friend has a rapid 7 and he can buy a full length DVD on tuning and maintenance. Any one seen one for a ultra . And I'm in need of a cheap chrony I no you cab get one for £53 new but thought I'd try for a second hand option First . Any info greatly appreciated !!!!! Thanks lads Ben
secret-squirrel
P.s I'm not trying to make a 28ft lb monster I just want a nice 11ft lb legal air rifle. And it just got me thinking how they said "if it's just a standard tune ". Makes me think it can't be hard and clearly is something pretty standard like on the old air arms s200 u had a air port screw. Thanks
barney 66
Don,t think you will get much help on tuning on an open forum, as these tips may get in the wrong hands, just my thoughts, if your lucky someone in the know may pm you some help
Brad93
It's expensive but when I got my superten back from john Bowkett it was a different gun! Edited March 31, 2014 by Brad93

fruity
It's expensive but when I got my superten back from john Bowkett it was a different gun! Agree with you there JB has done both of mine and they came back transformed
secretagentmole
Agree with you too, mine has had the full tune, quieter, much smoother loading, more accurate, more air efficient, makes you realise what BSA built the rifles down to as opposed to what they can be. A JB tune makes it a really Super 10!
Jayw
Mine was only doing 9ft out the box aswel my gunshop charged me £25 to turn it up its now doing a consistant 11.4 so much happier
Rimfireboy
Maybe they set them at 9ft lb to get the shot count up? They do have a small air capacity. Just a thought.
Jayw
Yes they state 50 shots in .22 but now mines at full power it only does 40 at a push before it needs a fill so would be about 30 in .177 shame really cos its a cracking little rifle other than that
secret-squirrel
Ended up doing some investigating with a friend who's a engineer (I thought he'd be best just incase) WOW now running at a solid 11.6 ftlb . Went Halfs with a pal and bought a chrony for 48£ . And saved the "£30-40" the gun shop wanted . It was super easy to do . 1 Allen key needed . And yes. "Rimfireboy" I think youv hit the nail on the head . My mates 2 month old ultra was at 10.2ftlb now at full power. Also very easy to tune up to the legal limit . Even tho it's a "anti-tamper" model . And info needed . Pm me . Thanks for the replies . Ben
andy198712
was yours the mmc version? (cocking bit at the front) took mine apart and looked pretty straight forward to adjust.

The gun shop said £30-40 the try and get it up to nearly 12ftlb . If it's a easy ""tune "" this has got me thinking is it possible to save the £40 ? The question is, what do you mean by 9ft lb? Across the entire power curve? Doubtful. Do you mean on average? Or do you mean when completely full? All unregulated guns will fluctuate power and also can be affected a lot by the weight of the pellet. You could find that, for instance, the power curve is such that if it is any more than 9ft lb at the muzzle at 190 bar it goes over 12 ft lbs at say 150 bar. So you may find a regulator is needed. My Air Arms s310 has a extremely flat power curve but it has the latest air cylinder fitted at the factory, my friend Toms s310 with the original cylinder fluctuates so much that at any more than 10ft lb at 190 bar it will go over at lower pressures. So he's getting a regulator!
dadioles
Chatting to a forensic firearms examiner in the pub a few months ago and he told me that when a dodgy air rifle comes in for examination they put a variety of pellets through and check the power at the muzzle with a chronograph. If any of the variety of pellets give a result over 12ft lbs it goes into the report and submitted with a view to prosecution or destruction of the rifle. So when you are tuning for a particular pellet, check a few other weights or designs just to be on the safe side.

Arron yeates
I havnt read all comments but if it has warranty with bsa still it should be ok to go back to bsa for work as mine did this and it was the regulated valve that needed replacing. Mines the SE model. Since thia i have had Darein Xtx air tune it and huma reg it. I dont think just adjusting the hammer spring tention will fix this. See if the gun shop will send it to bsa to fix. May cost you some but shouldnt be much.
Ultrastu
Any home tuning is absolutly pointless / daft .without a chrono . Take it to a shop if you dont have one .
