It’s not a trick dear,just basic training

Recommended Posts

Took the dogs for their Sunday morning walk early today, passing all the usual Sunday morning dog walkers from the village.

As I was on my way home I saw a lady walking, well being dragged by a very round black lab towards me barking as it came.

It was not an aggressive bark, just a bark saying I can’t wait to say hi to this lot.

I stepped to one side of the footpath and sat all the dogs down.

As the lady got level with me, and just about managing to stay on her feet while holding back the lab she said.

“oh you will have to teach mine that trick of sitting down when asked”

I replied.

“It’s not a trick dear, just basic training”

With this she just went off in a bit of a huff

This is the second time I have bumped into the lady, I think she is on her holidays down on the mercia marina.

I may try being a bit more diplomatic next time.

I had the same looking after a friends cocker for a week.

Several people with out of control dogs - able to sit 'mine' and let them go by with theirs straining.

'You've got that dog well trained'

'It's not my dog. It's my first/second day with it'

Should have seen their faces!

Even better when my lurcher does it and lab owners can't...

I used to think I was something special with dogs when I had lurchers, then I realised that the hardest dogs to train are the ones that can think for themselves ( I except most terriers are exempt from this via temprement LOL)

So my terrier is coming along nicely.... unless something decides to run from him!
