Quite common in WW2; often included in tent repair kits and the like....as not too many sail ships still in Royal Navy colours in 1939. Not in as common a usage in the army, but I think it was part of the tool set for some farrier/joiner type trades. Andy H Posted June 2, 2014 Report Share Posted June 2, 2014 (edited) As already said it's a sail makers palm ,We used to have them on the toolboard for repairs to the heavy webbing on the Vulcan Brakechute if the damage was to close to a very thick portion of webbing to thick for our sewing machines to handle. KFC Posted June 3, 2014 Report Share Posted June 3, 2014 As an added detail, from my days as a saddle tree maker, we used to supply a saddlemaker called Jabez Cliff in Walsall which is the centre of the saddle industry in this country.
