dazzyboi
Im just about to order a Hoppe's Boresnake Rifle Barrel Cleaner, as these were reccomended to me over the traditional cleaning rods...can anybody confirm this?
Dunkield
IMHO you can't beat rods for a proper clean.
Mungler
Boresnake all day long for the lazy and quick clean. Make sure you get the one with the integrated rough brass brush (integrated into the snake).
beatingisbest
is this for your shotgun? or is it for the hmr?

Make sure you get the one with the integrated rough brass brush (integrated into the snake). Quoted:" * Bore Brush embeded in the cord loosens hard deposits. * First Floss Area removes foreign particles prior to the scrubbing action of the brush. * Main Floss Area with 160 times greater surface area than a patch. * Brass Weight slips easily through barrel grasp and pull the cleaning cord through bore. * Calibre stamped on the brass weight "
Peter_HMR
I've a hoppes for my .17hmr and it has the bronze brushe i was looking at removing it though havent made up my mind. Very handy things give it a pull through aver 50 rounds throw it in the washing machine when it gets dirty and away you go again.
njc110381
I've looked at these for the HMR, they seem a good idea but I'm unsure how good a job they do?
dazzyboi
Its for the HMR...ill go for the boresnake then...
Gordon R
The Boresnake is excellent for a quick clean. On chrome lined barrels, it would probably be good enough. I would be reluctant just to use the Boresnake, if it had been raining in a non-chrome barrel. I have two Brownings:- GTi - non-chrome - I use traditional brush etc. XS - chrome - only using Boresnake.

Russell
its a rimfire ho often you need to clean them anyway I've had my Ruger 77/22 rimfire for @ 15 years & have never cleaned the barrel & its still very accurate, but the bolt & chamber areas occasionally cleaned. I have been looking at the boresnake for my Browning 525 though to give it a quick clean before putting it in the gunslip
Oly
I use boresnakes, love them, nice and easy and as clean as patches...just put it through then put a patch through to prove it! Re .22lr - depends on how much you like your gun and accuracy - personal preference really. Clean all my guns straight after shooting - it's the only sure fire way of knowing for sure, plus it gives you chance to look over the gun throughly and check for bulges etc...wouldn't like to shoot a gun which hasn't been cleaned for 15 years - would be scared for my life! As I posted above - it's only the barrel that I don't clean, the bolt gets a good clean quite regularly plus the bolt housing area. Even give the silencer a clean occasionally. Dunkield
Depends what you shoot through it, if it is a .22 firing lead bullets there isn't any point, if you use hyper sonic copper ammo the same cleaning that would give a centrefire would apply. I have bore snake that is use for quick run through on my .223, but it in no way does it clean as well as using patches and solvent

The bolt and silencer wouldn't erally blow up in your face...but a barrel could. I would be concerned about the intergrity of the barrel, any warps and bulges are put through serious pressures when firing a round through the barrel...all it takes is for one of them to go!
