Ballie
I already own a .22 RF and .243 and I have an open fac and I have my own shooting land of 720 acres, however I have put in for a variation for a .17hmr and my firearms office insists that I must have a visit from one of their officers, and I have to prove that I have good reason for wanting a .17hmr. I have no doubt that I will get the permission but my understanding of the law is that it is not necessary for the police to visit. As read on PW - Home office booklet “Firearms Law - Guidance to the police 2002†in the section on variations (page 52, chapter 10, section 10.49) it states “It is not normally necessary to re-examine the applicant’s circumstances, but it may be necessary in individual cases†Is it normal for the police to visit for a variation? MC
I'm with Stuart on this, I put in a variation for a 7.62 target rifle and he popped in for a chat and a cuppa. Made some excuse about having the forms signed in front of him. As long as you have good reason the there is no problem.
