Dead-Eyed Duck
Advice wanted please - I want to buy a brush cutter, and any comments would be appreciated. I need one for clearing round ponds etc - brambles and stout weeds will be the target. I would love to buy a Stihl, but the price is probably beyond my budget. kent
Well I have been abusing a husky for 5 years now, its had a few repairs but I haven't killed it yet. Cost? I think you pretty much get what you pay for in this marketplace. Look out for fakes very common now in both the top brands
dougall
Stihl do a 55/70/90/110/130. all of these will take blade heads. For brambles/nettles/small bushes(ie no wooden stems/trees wider than 1inch) the basic 55 will do you well.Get the handle bar version/comes with strap etc...forget rrps etc go to ';''Scats''(they are an agricultural supplier outfit all round SE) or ring them up.........@ £250 at the mo inc blades. If your pond is v large..are we talking acres & acres? then you will need to go up the range a bit.But for say clearing 100 metres of pretty thick stuff the 55 is great and well man enough for the job.And being a stihl will last/ready spares/service centres etc..Anything under @ £250 mark is a false economy....will NOT last do the job....have had/bought many over the years the latest stihl 55 is great/light/strong/destroys stuff efficiently and actually quite quiet too!!..if you are talking big landscaping type work then may have to go up to 90/110........these start to be proper money...£480-600+...heavier but almost fall into logging class!! I bought a 55 within last month and Scats were far and away best on price. Even if you had to have it sent to you/couriered I doubt you'll beat Scats price anywhere.atb. figgy
I use my pole hedge trimmer for clearing brush. Turn it round and it does a fantastic job. Figgy
