Awful in my eyes but as its not illegal then they are doing nothing wrong

I would rather not see those pics on the pw forum though

why? its a shooting forum, if its not illegal then why should it not be on here. to some people its interesting and some PW members ( not all I grant you ) may want to shoot big game.

I dont personally but take no offence whatsoever to those that do.

Asked him - he said it took 4 shots to take it down...... with the bow of course...

There's winging a bird, or needing a follow up shot on something with a rifle but having to take 4 shots surely shows that hippos aren't meant for a bow?

I was also disgusted watching that chap from that team wild on YouTube slaying wild pigs with a sword when they were cornered by dogs, can't see this being much better, seems a little in humane.

The other pics, if there was a reason to shoot them, it looks like they are a good shot, but certainly not my cuppa.

I would also say it also about the challenge of the hunt - how many hunters do you know would have the "gonads" to do that?

Who cares, if they've really got gonads go and do it with a knife if that's what counts.

Any killing of animals should be humane, regardless of the testosterone driven kudos drivel that some find impressive.

It is easy to make a comment like this if you have never done it yourself, isn’t it? Especially when the hippo is responsible for more human fatalities in Africa than any other large animal. Even the local hunter-gather natives still living in the bush would have more common sense than that to hunt a hippo with a knife…

That's not right mate, not having a go at you (as you didn't shoot it 4 times) but the hippo deserves a more humane demise don't you think? I know things are different in Africa but hunting something that big should be done with a large caliber rifle ( in my opinion)

Same could be said about posting pics of red deer, roe deer , fallow deer , pigeon , pheasant , grouse etc

They are all fine game, and all the comments posted bout those pics are" good shot" "what did you shoot it with etc" maybe we should not post pics of our quarry ( any quarry) on a shooting / PW forum eh???

And proberbly a couple of rounds of .600 nitro express from the guide . Most of the dangerous game shot by visiting hunters are actually killed by the guide as a follow up shot. Not my cup of tea .

Seems to be a lot of kettles on here! A lot of people would be more than happy couple of hundred pigeons or crows, or 10 foxes, or a few deer

but if someone shoots a big cat its all no no no!

A friend of mine was luck enough to go out to a game reserve in Africa and got to shoot some sort of antelope but he said as they flew in the the reserve you could see where it started by the animals, before they got there no animals and when they crossed the boundary the animals started to be seen. the place was paid for by shooting the money went back in to the reserve and to the people that lived on it. Each animal was watched and number controlled so if numbers of lions went up too much they would sell the right to shoot one and the same with the other game on the reserve. A bit like a pheasant shoot over here!

That male lion is a big boy. When you look at its paws and legs compared to your friend.

The water buffalo are a hard beast and very cunning.

Good luck with his business, the bow hunting Hippos is just not cricket old bean. There are tools for the job and a bow ain't it, unless a vehicle mounted crossbow with enough poundage and arrows to kill clean in one.

Seen Grizzly hunting with bows in the States and it's not my thing, each to their own, if it's legal.

Its all about personal choice and what you feel comfortable shooting. Most members on here shoot what they are happy to shoot humanely. For whatever reason.

If they are not happy about big game shooting it is their right to state that as it is mine. Balls, gonads, etc don't come in to it.

Maybe these photos would be better on a forum that specialises in big game hunting, not one that is geared towards what is commonly available in the UK.

I quite agree. But these same folk then whinge and get upset when antis voice their opinions that pigeons, geese, ducks, deer, foxes etc should not be shot.Double standards much??

So do we restrict off topic to only UK related matters using that logic??

We have had this debate many times in the past, I believe it started with pictures of an Australian Black Swan cull in New Zealand, back in 2003.

Its very simple, if its legal in the country that the pictures originate from and they are not "inappropriate" in a graphic sense, then they can be posted here.

If any members don't approve of these pictures, they are under no obligation to view them.

I think the title "South Africa - professional hunting" was the clue.

***, why would anyone want to shoot a monkey? I just dont get it. As for shooting a hippo with a bow!! Dear god, he needs that bow rammed up his ###.

For the same reason anyone would want to shoot a pigeon, pheasant, deer, rabbit, fox.... Vervet monkeys are a pain in the ****. BTW - whats wrong with hunting with a bow?
