Advice: benelli Vinci or super vinci?

Just joined PW so here is my first post;

Looking at getting a semi auto as I branch out into wildfowling, for geese /duck, clay practise and maybe later get into pigeons. Basically after a large amount or research from magazine articles and user forums I have narrowed it don't to 2 guns: benelli Vinci and the super vinci. On the face of it these guns differ only by the the latter having a 3.5" chamber (which I won't really need, I think).

The reality, from my reading of forums, is that many users have had issues with the tigger guard on the vinci ( a sweep back design hitting users middle fingers) the super Vinci was altered to address this issue. I have shoulder the Vinci and without being able to fire it I am unable to say if this biting finger issue would effect me (although I can see how it has effected others). I cannot find a super Vinci locally to shoulder, let alone shoot. So my question is to those that have experience of both or either of these models; what are the pros and cons of them in regards to the functions I hope to put the gun to. And Specifically their ability to handle lighter loads I.e 2 3/4", 28g?

Many thank, and btw I'm impressed with PW with its large volume of technical data on cartridges for game.

Just buy the gun your heart tells you to. Forget reviews.

You will only wonder what if. If you deviate from your choice.

They all go bang and miss as well as each other.

Ermm I disagree!!! Look at the reviews!! Why wouldn't you? Somebody else has tried and tested the gun ur thinking about buying!!! To "forget reviews" is just silly!!

Also in the world of semi autos they don't all "go bang" all of the time. Another reason why looking at some reviews can help you.

Out of the two I suggest you shoot both befor u buy ( I know it may be hard to find a shop which would let you but if u do it is well worth it!! No piont the first time you shoot a gun is after you've given some one a £1000 + for it

Now I have the Benelli m2 which I am very happy with, how ever I have heard ( yes this is a review) that the vincis do have a lot of felt recoil ( I haven't actually shot one) but this is what I have heard from more than one person.

Secondly are you set on the Benelli? Have u looked at browning, beretta, winchester makes of guns?

Read the reveiws as they both have had issues rusting.

The Super Vinci has also been known to be cart fussy with anything less than three inch.

If your serious about fowling get shouldering and shooting as many semi autos as you can, the recoil off big steel carts can be punishing, the reason a lot of us use gas operated guns.

I prefer the fit of berettas but the Winchester SX3 I had was superb with all the carts I put through it, just never fit me right.

The browning Maxus is a good gun same internals as SX3 for more money. The Remington Versamax is a fowling, pigeon gun.

Friends have the Benellis and love them but they are the M2's and the Montefeltro. The M2's are pigeon and clay guns the latter clay only upto now.

The lad I know who had the Vinci got rid after a year as it just didn't wear well. Bought another Beretta.

Iv the Remington Versamax at its a great gun! Cant fault it and it shoot everything i put in it! I feel its more reliable than the Berettas and Browning's/Winchesters as the gas system in them are so simple yet work so well!

Could also say that the recoil on it is nothing, less recoil than the Berettas with the kick off (thats what i found when i had go of them)

The Versamax is a hefty lump of a gun so will soak up the recoil. And the gas operated action helps too.

I'm hoping my new semi will soak up the recoil when I pick it up. It's over eight pound in weight and has the kick off the piston keeps itself clean like the Versamax.

I think if you want to Wildfowling pick the gun to that and they will do pigeon and clays easy. But a clay or pigeon gun may not cope with the marsh or foreshore very well.

Hatsan are bringing a new Inertia operated semi auto to the market. Prices look to be under £400.00 with a three year warranty.

Let's face it you could hammer the life out of it and the warranty should take care of any problems, after three year if you bust it, it's only cost 130 a year. Not bad and that's worst case. Chances are it will just keep going.

Hardest felt recoiling auto iv ever fired, followed by the SBE2, M2 and ES100..... The only advantage to an inertia gun is its easier to clean ..... The cons out way the pros, get a decent gas auto and enjoy your shooting.

Edit to add, I used big 3" fowling loads when I compared the guns....

I have an sbe2 and I can't tell the difference in recoil compared to all the gas autos ive owned which includes the sx3 and franchi raptor, It cycles any 70mm + shells you can throw at it and it does not reply on being clean, I would never go back to a gas op auto again, benelli's are awesome bits of kit !!!!

traded the Vinci in cause I wasn't that keen on it I liked the way it went together but the recoil was noticeable I just prefer the m2 I've had a few super black eagles but found the recoil was more than the m2.i had the new escort and could not fault it recoil was next to nothing on that gun but I part exchanged that for a urika 2 sporter so it was a good trade I bought a brand new maxus in camo had it out on Wednesday night and shot a Canada goose the recoil is good on that.but I've always kept the m2 because what ever cart you put in it goes bang no failures if I had to choose between the two I'd have the m2 rather than the Vinci

Crossy 666; how did it fair with 28g loads?

Alros01: can I ask why u traded ur vinci? Problems?

Thanks

I have only just brought it mate (4/5 weeks ago) and only had chance to use it on clays at the minute. I brought it because its on fac and I wanted a benelli. Time will tell how I get on with it but like it so far and no problems so far.

If you are local you are more than welcome to come and give it a try mate.

So Gin steady shooter, you may have gathered by now that everyone has an opinion, or review of their guns. And everyone likes, dislikes, preferred or wasn't impressed by some aspect of all guns.

And chances are they have all bought guns they liked or did not like. And have probably traded or have cupboards full of guns they may or may not use.

So as I said , just buy the one you want to buy.

Because scratching the unscratchable itch of buying the right gun will be with you the whole time you enjoy and continue to shoot.

Thanks for all who contributed; in the end I wasent convinced by the Vinci or super vinci. Number of reviews citing issues was a factor. So I broke fom my own tradition of buying a well established model; took a gamble and, on the strength of a few reviews on PW, went for a beretta a300 extrema. Collected yesterday afternoon put 75 cart though her at clay ground. Might need to adjust drop a bit but as stock gun fitted well. Happy with decision so far.
