Moonlighting for fox

Decided a bit of baiting was in order for fox.

No lamps needed tonight, I just picked a good spot and got comfortable just before sunset - my back to a river, so no foxes creeping up behind me.

The bait was 100 yards away in front of a bank (backstop for the bullet and good backdrop for seeing the fox against).

I did not have to wait long, 30-40 mins, and along came this one - only 35 yards away and skulking in the general direction of the bait - stopped (not by me) for some marking and took a 75g ballistic tip to the chest.

I did see another (about 150 yards away) but no interest from that one - so will try different tactics for that one soon.

Cheers

Just out of interest do you load your own ammo, if so why the ballistic tip? I use 75gr federal classic and i can put 3 in the end of my thumb @125m.

If you dont home load what brand ammo have you matched to ya rifle?

Hi H,

You must have long arms, does it hurt :welcomeani:

I do load my own ammo but these are factory - I tried a few factory boxes recently and Remington Premier Accutip 75g ballistic tips (as used yesterday) and 80g softpoints again Remington both group well and with the same point of impact.

I will try and replicate the 75/80g loads if I can get hold of the bullets heads - that's been the most frustrating thing about my reloading, getting hold of the bullet heads - always out of stock :good:

Cheers
