Ollieollie
As per the title, doesn't need to be fancy, clean, central location. Also where to go, what to do?? Thank you in advance Ollie

Twistedsanity
Watch out for pickpockets Barcelona is rife with them, and it would be a crime not to check out Gaudi's cathedral
MattSoanes
If you going with the lads, Have a look at The Genarator Hotel, we stayed there in the summer for a long weekend, 10 minute walk to las ramblas, as for things to do, get the open top bus for the day, it's great for a raging hangover!! The Nou Camp is worth a look, even if your not into football. Come to think of it that's pretty much all we done apart from get drunk. If your going with the Mrs then the Genarator is probably not for you.

SuperGoose75
Cant recommend an Hotel as We stayed in Salou and went on a day trip from there. It was june and never have I encountered a hotter day in my life.Even the Native people were struggling and bodies where laying under any shade they could find. As we had kids we spent a few hours at the Aquarium 'which was pretty good' if you are a foodie 'there are plenty of good Tapas on las ramblas and have yourself a bottle or 3 of San miguel. One thing we did do was get kinda lost and went off the beaten track and through the real Barcelona so to speak' lots off alleys and it was interesting to see how the everyday people of the city went about there Businesses. Lovely city.

MartynGT4
Check out this place, we stayed there a few weeks ago for a weekend and although the hotel was quite small (23 rooms), the room was well sized, it was very cheap, spotlessly clean (no really), staff were great and the location was perfect, I'd use them again. http://www.musikboutiquehotel.com/en/index.html Edited November 26, 2014 by MartynGT4
lksopener
Barcelo raval is lovely and just off las ramblas, within walking distance of most of the major city sites. Oh and if you want to go out at night head to port Olympic all the taxis know it, it's much better than anywhere in the centre of town. MartynGT4
One tip about Las Ramblas in the evening is to steer well clear of the metal tables, especially those outside, or near, shops called 'Baguettes Cataluna' (there's loads of them). If you make the mistake of sitting down and ordering a beer or two, you'll be stitched up with 1ltr stiens for 15 euros each and they'll put up quite a fight if you try to send them back! Worse still, if you're daft enough to ask for two Sangria's (I witnessed this), you'll also end up with steins and they'll set you back 45 euros! Do yourself a favour and check out the places in the Gothic or old town area or even better port Olympic (far left of the beach as you're facing the sea). As for pick pockets, don't let worrying about that ruin your trip, if you keep your wits about you you'll be fine but if you brave the Metro it would be best if you didn't take your hands out of your pockets.
