studley Posted November 28, 2014 Report Share Posted November 28, 2014 Evening chaps, I'm looking at mounting a red dot scope on a ruger 10/22 for plinking/bunny bashing from the truck. I dont have any experience with this sort of optic - could any of you recommend something half decent/makes to avoid? Ebay has lots of **** from china and the specialist websites have military spec kit for £800+. I'm looking for something at the cheaper end but not so bad its terrible. Thanks in advance! Colleague in Belgium tells me he has been taking scopes off and fitting them for many customers on heavier calibre rifles but I see no reason they can not be used on a .22, Price is comparable to a mid range scope if memory serves . It is made from anodised aluminium, having a choice of images. I think this one came from Uttings sold as Guntuff. It's ideal for close range, rapid shots at scattering rabbits. Unless you are good at estimating hold over red dots of course lack any structure/information in the 'reticle' to help you. They were designed for point and shoot and suit flat trajectories. Tasco Propoint's have been around for a while so must sell.....http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tasco-Propoint-1x32-MOA-Riflescope/dp/B000W9VPNA Get the smallest MOA dot you can and make sure it is visible against a background at low brightness settings - sometimes as you turn the brightness up the dot 'stars' and obscures more and more of a target. Interesting what you say about doctor sights Gunman - I have a friend in belgium and one in bavaria who both shoot driven game with a 9.3x62 with a red dot scope and thats what they have recommended - bit of a step up from a .22 mind! Given that they are only £20 I've just ordered the Guntuff model that kenj reviewed. I'm interested in a 'better' quality red dot sight myself and these look pretty good and not too expensive. The question I have is if the quality of the actual dot cost related? The couple I have currenty were both under £50 each and they are good for what I use them for. My only criticism is that the actual dot is fuzzy around the edge and not pin sharp - one is 3 moa and the other 4 moa. Is the dot superior on a more expensive sight or is that just how they all are? kenj Posted December 15, 2014 Report Share Posted December 15, 2014 Back to this thread station, the Guntuff sight, as reviewed in my post to studley, has an option of size dots and also cross hairs in green, or red, with light variations too. I preferred the cross hairs in green for daylight. I cannot fault mine. A low 4x magnification would have ideal, but shooting rabbits to 50 yards, rested was fine. Even with my 3 -9 scope, I don't shoot beyond 60 yards at rabbits with my .22 Magtech. I don't have shares in Guntuff, but having had a cheap plastic version, which WAS rubbish, I can recommend it. station Posted December 30, 2014 Report Share Posted December 30, 2014 (edited) Studley - did your sight turn up and have you had a play yet?My mate has just ordered one and is waiting patiently for it to arrive.I fell lucky (or unlucky) with a guy I know from a club who had bought a genuine Aimpoint but did not get on with it after only a month. I bought it for a fair price with the original receipt and fitted it on one of my .22 semi's. Really impressed compared to my other 2 red dots but will wait till my mates new one turns up to see if the money was well spent, or not.
