I watched him last week in a documentary about his truck mechanic work, the conversation turned to the merlin he owns

the crux was "it makes most power at x rpm so I give it the beans.took off across workshop and thru store room wall"

 

So he revs the nuts off a 27ltr v12 indoors lol would just love to goto a dinner where he was speaker

Watched that,the mans a nutter,but what a nutter.

How incredible was the section where he tried to insert a bush which would'nt fit because the heat from his hand had caused the piece of metal to expand by micro millimetres thus making it too big to fit correctly .Leave it a few minutes to cool down then hey presto like magic it slides in perfectly .Amazing .

and they could machine parts to this sort of tolerance during ww2, after making gear box parts for bl and land rover in the eighties its no wonder they went under, and they deserved it, used to go from making selector forks that were sent out and used because they looked the right shape to making parts for an American company that had to be within half a thou on tapers that were an ******** to measure, british engineering may have once been the envy of the world but unions and sheit attitude killed that

Mum was an Inspector at a shadow factory in Aylesbury during the war where they made ball joints for Wellington bombers....she would tell me how they were measured and checked for accuracy, then, by hand for "feel", if it didn't feel right, it was binned !
