Suffolkngood
Good evening every one. I'm looking to get around a dozen crow decoys and wondered what you guys recommend. Ideally want a varied pattern I.e not all shells, head up/down etc. Also, anyone had success with a rotary for crows? ATB Mark
Caravanman
I use homemade rag decoys and a homemade foam floater.
Suffolkngood
That looks impressive. How have you made them?
Caravanman
Made the floater from a foam exercise mat that cost £2.50 and mounted it on a flexable cane. The rags were made for next to nothing. How to make a crow rag decoy: Works really well.
Suffolkngood
Are all yours in the photos nothing more than bin bags on canes?
Caravanman
Yes. I have about 80 made up in total. Bags £1.00 from Aldi. Cable ties £1.00 from Amazon. Stapler and staples £1.00 from B&M. Canes £3.00 per pack of 10 which cut in half to make 20. They take up little room and weigh nothing.
Farcombehall
I use a dozen full bodied, flocked with feet, you can tilt some of them forward as feeding and put a couple on a nearby fence or hedge as lookouts, keep the ones on the ground at least 5 to 6 feet apart and face all different ways, works for me. Bobba
Good evening every one. I'm looking to get around a dozen crow decoys and wondered what you guys recommend. Ideally want a varied pattern I.e not all shells, head up/down etc. Also, anyone had success with a rotary for crows? ATB Mark I use FUD's which I refurbished recently with car bar matt black. They work OK and are light to carry. One cautionary word if I may. Avoid the electronic crow calling full bodied decoy. It is not illegal to own one or sell one but it is illegal to use any sound recording for the purpose of killing or taking any wild bird. And before anyone nit picks about what is considered sound recording, there is a post by David, BSAC, on Shooting UK, where he believes that it is considered that digital calls, although not tested with a legal case, would be considered to equate to "sound recording". Suffolkngood
Looks good enough to me but...........did it fool the black un's?
Caravanman
It did and then I scared them all away with an abysmal display of shooting. The floater really grabs their attention. superspark
They look good but I am to impatient to make them so I bought 20 full bodied flock coated ones which work very well but then that's me. Each to there own

steve_b_wales
Its called Cammoreal. Bought it at least 10 years ago. Camoreal is brilliant. I have used it for years, and it seems to blend in with most backgrounds, even dry stone walling.
bud84
Has anyone ever tried these with grey bags for pigeons? Wondering if they would work mixed in with other decoys to make the pattern bigger without spending a fortune?

bud84
Maybe i'll do that. They would be very cheap and very light to carry. I've seen some bags that look the right sort of colour. If something as simple as that can fool a crow you'd like to think it'd do the same for pigeons
Konnie
might shine in sun as pigeons, crows you would get away with
steve_b_wales
Check out CORREX decoys in the Craft & DIY Section. I've made loads and they work perfectly.
Suffolkngood
Check out CORREX decoys in the Craft & DIY Section. I've made loads and they work perfectly.Just remembered I've got a couple of correx for sale signs in the garage. Gonna make as many silhouettes as I can out of them. Am I better of using some kind of etch primer before painting with Matt black paint or just run a sander over them? I'll then buy a black bed sheet and make up some wind socks to fit them. That'll keep me busy for a few hours. Edited February 6, 2015 by Suffolkngood
oowee
I use full bodied shells. Light and quick to use, dry quickly dont carry mud and can be set up in trees and hedges. They did have feet attached but most of these are missing. I also use shells and stand them on stubble stalks.I have some FUD's but dont get on with them as they take time to set up, carry mud need two hands and are more limited in aplication. I have a couple of floaters and find they work well on new branches in the summer but later on in the year the birds seem to have caught on. I find that a large pattern works best, but of equal importance is good cover for the hide and visibility of the pattern from a distance. I was lucky, in that my Correx came as black sheets from my son in laws factory. If you google Crow silhouette, you should get a few shapes to copy off.
