30-6
I am thinking of getting a photon nv and read that they can be used in the daytime (with the cap on I believe). Not having a dedicated night set up, this appeals to me. So how good are they for daylight use ?
prem1234
I've got the XT and they are usable in the day but they are not the best..... For example in day time on targets I can see the black centre dot (1 inch) at 25m but at 50m I can't see it. Again shooting rabbits the other afternoon at 25m they were on a bank in foliage easy to spot with the naked eye but with the NV I could hardly see them, and the brighter the day the worse it is..... At night it's a different matter and they come into there own I would stick to normal Scope for day use and then swap over to NV for early evening and Night. WelshMike
Even with the filter not the best. The other thing is the zero moves between day and night.
prem1234
Oh OK.....On the XT you've got a flip open scope cover that you open for night use and close for day use....it's got a very small hole a few mm in diameter to limit the light coming in. WelshMike
Sorry guys, shouldnt have used the "filter". The original photon came with the removable cover for use between day and night. I got the doubler and this came with the flip up cover with the small hole. Still have the zero issue to contend with.

Mr mutley
Not got one myself but any photographers tried using a ND filter with it with any success. That and or ir filters. (ND - neutral density not negligent discharge, only filter for that is a boot to the head) would be interesting to try

WelshMike
WelshMike.....How do you find the doubler ? Sorry bud been away for a few days. As snow white says the zero does move but makes the unit a lot better in my opinion. I think it is worth the money if you have an existing unit. Not sure what else is available for the price of the photon + doubler though but glad I fitted one.
