beatingisbest
when i bought my .410 the barrel looked how you are describing and that was in a very good gunshop, i got it home cleaned it up a bit and looked through the barrel and it was spotless
Lord Geordie
If it is just starting then having the bore polished (lapped) will solve the problem in most cases. A good rodding with a Bronze brush and some light oil takes care in most cases of light marks in the barrel  LG
ferret boy
Cheers for replys, how much does this polishing cost LG?Its just a cheapo gun for pigeons so dont want to be spending ££ on it really. Hopefully will be ok when i clean it. if its not and does have some marks is it ok to shoot and if i keep it clean will that make it last and stop any more damage? cheers
P03
Have it inspected by a Gunsmith, if the barrel is pitted then it may be out of proof and it is illegal for ANYONE to sell a gun out of proof unless it has been decomissioned. Lord Geordie
I am pretty sure i was quoted about £50 for an old Remmy 11. As stated earlier pitting does NOT always mean a gun is out of proof depending in the severity. Badly pitted (visible deep scars in the bore lining) will most likely be out of proof but LIGHT pitting (just starting) or just rusty marks on the barrel lining is normally fine. If your in any doubt as stated above take it for a Professional opinion! LG
mry716
Actually pitting doesnt put a gun out of proof BUT it may well make it unacceptable for reproof. Proof law is peculiar and often rather silly. They consider the bore size and anything over a certain figure (dependant on proofed size) is out of pproof but you can remove twice that thickness when striking barrels for reblue and you are of course still in proof. As I say rather silly.
ferret boy
So if i see the odd mark here and there and i keep it clean it should be ok?
