Seem to recall that a intumescent strip is a good idea to help seal the lid and that brass screws should be used to prevent sparks. Its a good idea to let your local fire brigade know as well that your outhouse (normally) contains explosives. Buy the right plastics if you intend to keep individual charges in your bag-anti static is a must unless you want to spend time in the field picking up body parts. Have fun.

good point!i rather enjoy my body being in one piece.I was thinking of making a cartridge box from a block of wood with holes drilled in then paper cartridges slotted in,then fit that into a leather belt pouch or bag.do you think that would that work safely?

hello U,yes something like that. Are they practical or is it better to carry everything in a bag?i saw some proper early victorian cartridge boxs in my regiments museum once and they looked quite handy but bulky.time to surf the net for ideas as to what to knock up i think :-) Edited by deadeye18

I normally carry around 30 plastic screw top tubes (Peter Starley stocks them for pennies) with a single charge of black in each one-these are stored in a compartment in my bag then dropped into the bottom of the bag as I use them-makes life a little easier and neater. What gun are you getting btw percussion or flintlock? and what make/gauge only I have quite a few bits laid around.

Just finishing off an 1860 Pattern cartridge box for a Pritchett Enfield...complete with buff sling & cap pouch.

He uses paper patched bullets loaded into paper cartridges & wanted a period correct cartridge box.

Sounds nice. Put some photos up please.

I have and sometimes do make paper cartridges for powder and shot.

U.

.58 are fun but tend to be heavy and the smooth versions usually shoot high.//<![CDATA[

We definately need a Black powder sub forum somewhere where we can discuss and share our backwards obsession.

Backwards obsession! I resemble that remark!

Lol, its the future I tell you! One day all guns will be this much fun :-)
