Gents

I am pleased to advise that I and fellow PW member Mark Hughes AKA JD2130 have completed on the purchase of Rixton Clay Pigeon Club AKA Astley Gun Club.

The first shoot under our umbrella will be this coming Sunday commencing at 10am.

Leighton and David will still be around for a while to hand over before we go solo.

We do have plans for the shoot and intend to seriously invest in the club and its facilities.

The current shoot facilities have to be relocated to allow the quarry to take the sand. Whilst this represents a serious amount of work we intend

to cease on the opportunity to improve facilities for members commencing with improved cafe.

More traps and different targets will follow in due course, as will improved facilities for disabled shooters. We have lots of plans and ideas, but need to get bedded in, learn the ground, meet and listen to the members.

The club does have a website for anyone who is interested in learning a little more about the club, we've also inherited the website but have not yet made any amendments. www.astleygunclub.co.uk

Mark and I, assisted by our respective sons and a few other PW members look forward to welcoming PW members and their friends in the future.

Despite the preforecast rain which didn't disapoint we had a good turn out yesterday.

A steep learning curve for us as we learn the ground and capabilities of the traps etc.

The changes start today with the ordering of a new Laporte looper / rabbit trap; catering equipment and hire of excavation equipment.

We just need to get the land owner to OK the new plot dimensions.

An excellent turnout yesterday, our best since takeover. The forecast rain failed to arrive, but the new gazebos were erected just in case.

The new cafe was very well received despite the limited offering due to ongoing work.

Sounds like you are really getting a grip on stuff, John. Well done.

Best wishes,

David.

Step by step we're making progress despite some unexpected set backs.

It's a real team effort. I'd be lost without Mark and Martin, a number of friends are also pitching in to assist and make the venture a success.

Martin and I were still at work until about 7 pm. whilst we sorted a problem with a Bowman trap and modified the wiring to accept a new radio control and counter system that we are trialing.

We need to re manufacture some gearbox mounting brackets tomorrow. Next will be servicing one of the Laporte traps and sorting the wiring for radio control and counter system. A little like the Ark, all the traps are coming in for service and modifications two by two; quick release handles to replace spanners where possible and quick release battery connectors are ordered and on the agenda. The shoot currently takes far too long to set up. A little more practice, and sound engineering should knock a chunk off the set up and break down times.

It's a 40 bird shoot on Sunday!

The Practice Stand (6) will be radio control with a counter system that we are trialing.

Bacon Butties are back with Hot Dogs in support.

We've said it before, but it really does look like the excavation work for the move really will begin on Monday.

Cracking shoot today. Brilliant weather, extremely well attended. Lots of positive feedback from satisfied shooters despite a technical glitch early on. The new radio control and counter system proved it's worth on the practice stand. It's the future.
