viking
iv just bought a 1982 series 3 county station wagon, with a safari roof. me and a mate are going to do a nut and bolt refurb on it, galvanized chassis, full respray, the lot. just wondered if any one else had done anything similar, and what your thoughts are, or any advise you may have,
wisdom
Nice series 3 not too difficult a iob if you have the space.Landrovers are basically a huge mecanno set.Treat any rust and take your time.If doing the gear box I found it easier to lift the body and chassis off it as its an awkward lump mine was a 110 though.good luck itll be a nice project
loriusgarrulus
Nice looking Landy There is lots of advice available on the "Series 3 90 and 110 owners club site on the forum. http://www.thelandroverclub.co.uk I get 20% discount with Lancaster with my membership of the club, but I believe you can join the forum without being a member. There are just parts of the forum open to club members only, but the technical sections are open to anyone. ajb403
I have a 1979 straight 6 truck cab which I got back out on the road last month after 10 months of working on the bulkhead and chassis, I will be taking it back off of the road in a couple of months time to do the gearbox. Here's a link to what I did: https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/straight-6-rebuild.266514/ Any advice - it will take longer than you think, keep the momentum up as I've seen friends stall on their projects and getting going again is hard, work in one job at a time and try not to think about the enormous 'to do' list. bubble
I haven't done one but I own a 'done' one Big picture from me, mine had a £20K refurbish done 6 years ago by the director of fat face clothing company , a couple of years later it changed hands for £15k and I bought it for £11K this January , it a good way to loose money. They big bill comes from EVERYTHING been refurbished, all axles gear boxes etc, this vehicle doesn't drop any oil ! It's mint...... But I don't feel able to off road it...... Argh! It's great at shows because it's pretty , but I have asked myself why I didn't go for a £5k all rounder Yours will be a good looker, keep the station wagon brown, but loose the chequer plate :-) Looks good already , enjoy

Harnser i know mate, but its something iv wanted to do for a long time, and chose this one as you dont see many russet brown series 3 csw about, i will do my best to cost it before i start though. i may even just repair the chassis and have it re-sprayed. thanks. lee Don't forget the strip down and build pics i wont mate, ill be taking an obscene amount of photos thanks. lee not even got it yet, its been delivered on Wednesday tea time, as i bought it from Southampton, and that would of been a 12 hour round trip. Passionforangling
I bought a fairly battered series a few years ago for £1000 ( it was tax exempt , 200tdi and had a Fairey Overdrive) I subsequently decided to have it professionally refurbished which cost a little over £10000. That was new chassis, all new brakes, new seats, fuel tank, 5 new tyres and basically everything including a full respray. I liked it but it still drove like a 1970's Landrover so I sold it after a couple of years for £8000 so didn't lose too much. Bought a newer defender now which I really like Good luck with your project......they are great motors but not if its your only car as mine was
