Pigeon With Beer?

Slightly odd title I know but I couldn`t think of a better way to word it.

Every year myself and a bunch of likeminded mates meet up to go fishing. We take along a variety of food for lunch, homemade scotch eggs, some nice cheeses, pork pies, a bottle of port and whatever else people choose to bring along.

This year I was thinking of knocking up a few pigeon pies to take along. I`ve read quite a few recipes, a lot of which have port or wine in them. However I was wondering about adding a nice beer to the stock. Probably a nice dark ale like Theakstons OP or Hobgoblin. So I was wondering if any of the PW massive had any opinions/experience of such a pie? Would it be ok? Would the dark ale be ok or too overpowering, would a lighter beer be better?
