Growing a beard...

I am a bearded man, and although it is far from luxuriant, it is at least even. In most cases all that is needed is perseverance - and the occasional light pruning. Once everything catches up and is groomed back to the appropriate level, even the patchiest of growth can approach respectability.

Pity me about 7 years ago trying to grow a moustache from scratch! Agonisingly slow and deeply embarrassing.

Stick with it, Doc!

Some people like the trampy look - look at Corbyn.

If so, go for a beard.

What he said.

I tried a moustache a few years ago fo that Movember lark. Gave up after 10 days. Too itchy and I sat in the office stroking it (the moustache) like a 70's porn star.

Porn moustache, you say?

Suddenly I'm strangely interested in facial hair.

Its many years since I had a beard, recently said to Mrs SBL I may grow one again............reply "don't be silly you'll look like uncle Albert. what a putdown

What's the matter with Uncle Albert? Very nice chap! The beard is brill in the winter and when it gets past 0.25" long it don't itch. Useful for storing the odd snack (breakfast) for the mid morning snack.

Last time my daughter saw me without a beard she had just come home from Uni. She came in the door, took one look and screamed.

I havent shaved since my late teens. I clip when I can be bothered but never without anything less than some stubble, although I did clean shave as a dare earlier this year. When I re-entered the sitting room my 2yr old daughter started to cry cos she didnt recognise me  took an hour to calm her down.

I'm only 30 and let's just say I often get called Osama or the taliban.

They don't grow over night, and they are scruffy to begin with but once you've attained a bit of length you can trim them and neaten it up a bit.

Deceided this winter I am going full taliban style.

Well went through the I will have a beard thing left it for about 2 weeks and I was starting to feel quite proud of my achievement until my wife point out that it was grey and the rest ginger  I shaved it off the same afternoon. Some colours just don't work well together.

I thought I would look like this:

But in fact I looked like this:

We had a bloke at work on the IT support desk who looked like the bloke who tried to blow up a plane with his shoe. He was soon nicknamed 'shoebomber'. Before you know it HR were involved and we had to stop. Killjoys. He got a payoff. Probably bought some new shoes.

You could try the same.

I've been growing mine for over a year now. Had a few trims but it's getting long now. Nick name is Dom the bomb lol.

I use some nice beard shampoo and beard oils , some say it's a bit girly but it keeps it soft and stops bad skin under the beard. And it's smells nice. Captain fawcett booze and baccy is the nuts

I tried growing a beard last year and got a bit of a beard over 3.5 months, but it was ginger and drove me crazy, even when I trimmed it right back.

How ever I had my last shave just over a week ago, untill 16th of this month which is a friday, reason being our first shoot day is saturday 17th so I plan to finish work early on the friday and head out to the barbers for a hair cut and hot towel shave just to make the enjoyment of the first shoot that much nicer !

Other wise its a EJ DE89 loaded with a green astra sp with TOBS Sandlewood or Mr Taylor and a nice badger brush, shaving luxuary. Havent touched a cartridge razor since getting this EJ DE89 just over two years ago.

I found it a revelation swopping from Mach 3 types to DE.

Always felt like I was hacking my face to shreds before where now it takes half the time with much better results an less irritation.

I'll admit that there is certainly a learning curve using a DE and you may bleed a wee bit to start with but once half mastered you'll never look back.

Not managed to convince any mates to make the change either.

I love my DE89 shaving doesn't feel as much of a chore even though it takes a bit longer, I don't get Ingrowing hairs any more either and it's far cheaper too !!
