Reloading

When getting primers and powder by mail then you will have to pay hazmat delivery which is around £30.00 before you start. That is why people are asking for your location. Clay and Game is up in Hull and FES is down in Folkestone. There will be ones closer to you possibly but people can't help without knowing your location.

Cookoff wants to be a toyboy.

You're close enough to Cookoff to pop round and have a chat. You couldn't find a more helpful chap to help you get started. He helped me no end. You need to decide why you want to reload (cost saving or just an addition to your hobby), what gauge, lead/steel, clays or game etc. then get yourself a reloaders manual (The ABC of reloading, Lyman 5th edition of reloading) and read it a couple of times. What's your budget for setting up? Don't buy anything until you have made those decisions.

It's not a black art and can be most rewarding especially seeing your first clay dusted or a pigeon fold in mid flight with a shell you loaded yourself. Also you don't have to spend the time going to the shop to buy cartridges again.

No way do I want to put anyone off reloading BUT it does take time out of your life. If you have not got that time then it is not going to be easy.

I do almost all of my own reloading apart from 22/17HMR rim fires and any small quantities of specialist stuff, like should I get a chance at some geese for instance then i will go out and buy a box for that purpose. BUT I can spend a whole day just loading and recently that has not been difficult due to the weather.

All the advice given above is good.  Precision, care is essential so when loading lock yourslf away from all distractions.

Finally have fun because seeing your own reloads do the job adds that little bit ...maybe big bit  ..... of satisfaction and enjoyment.

I spent years reading and reloading and corelating data.

Not to mention designing my own loads. And having stuff tested.

You are right. The cheapest most effective way to get shells is to buy "ready made"

I do not live in that world.
