Pulled Over

What always surprises me with threads of these topics,is people's attitudes towards the police.

People moan about the Police, up till the point they need them, then you cry like babies.

People should be more tolerant and understanding that police officers do what they can but the law is vast and expecting every officer to know every law is impossible.

Many years ago returning home one Sunday from a club shoot on Bisley ranges, all of the traffic on the southbound carriageway was brought to a crawl by a large police roadblock

.

When we eventually arrived at the checkpoint an officer said, “Can I ask what you are carrying in the boot of your car sir”? “Four rifles, six handguns plus several hundred rounds of ammunition and associated kit”, I replied! “You are joking”, he said.

After taking a look in the boot of the car which was packed to the gunnels with weaponry and our shooting kit he thanked me and waived us through, just like that!

It was in the days when the IRA were active and there had been a serious incident of which we were unaware in one of the military complexes local to the area. A different world then when the police viewed FAC/SGC holders in a more favourable light, although I must say he did not ask to see ours. :hmm:

I was stopped recently,( 2nd time in 10years) 22.00 at Night, was driving down a double carriage way in Birmingham. On a straight stretch, with a big lay by, there was probably 5-6 Police cars, stopping people randomly...with my luck, I got pulled over....thinking in my mind, this its going to be interesting.

2 police officers, approached my car, very cautiously,, I winded down the window," Good evening Officer", as I said that, the officers, knew my full name and where I was from, the Gent was very polite, he informed me, that he ran my car number plate and he knew that I was a firearm holder, asked me where I've been and if I had any of my firearm with me.

His colleague joined us, we a had a nice chat, very civil and polite, neither of them agreed on my passion, still it was a good conversation.

I think that the art of conversation is dwindling and its becoming more and more apparent day by day, I hear quite legitimate questions being asked only to be confronted with defensive and aggressive replies, that if answered in a manor that would have normally be given politely, then it would have been received with respect. There seems so much of,,,, they cant do that to me, kind of attitude these days, and its not just the police that are on the receiving end.

I've been stopped twice and on both occasions I was polite and pleasant and the 2 occasions, the 1st was with 2 Police that pulled over into a gateway as I was just setting up and the other was by armed response. And just to add I only had my ticket on me when the armed response stopped me the other time they were not really fussed, but did check. And on both occasions I lost about an 3/4 of an hour shooting, why ? because we were talking, did I mind of course I dint mind, I was just being sociable and enjoyed the chat.

You do realise that some police officers are complete tossers, don't you?

Unbelievable that some think it's big and clever to get all stroppy when stopped .

Unless there just gobbing off on the interweb - from the safety of their armchairs

Absolutely, there are people that routinely act like idiots everywhere. Unfortunately this includes some people who are supposed to enforce our laws. After an incident late last year I lost a lot of respect for the police.

And you realise that some of the people these officers stop are complete tossers, don't you?

And that is the problem,Because the police are used to dealing with the more dubious end of society when they talk to you they

assume you are the same until proved otherwise.(It should be the other way round).

No One makes them join the police if its that tough a job, i know the last time they recruited for the PSNI here there were around 10,000 applications for 300 jobs.

As you say not forced to do the job. What a wonderful world it would be without them. And while you are at it nobody forces anyone to be a fireman ambulance person doctor nurse soldier.without people willing to do these jobs I wonder how lifecwould be for all the keyboard heroes who like to criticise them.I would blame the government for cutting all the resources making their work harder they have to deal with a lit of lowlifes like the crack heads and the scum that would invade your home to steal what you have worked for and not forgetting the accidents where they have to go inform people thete loved one won't be coming home as another saying goes it's a rubbish job but someone has to do it.Thank God.

Saying no one makes them join, is not criticising them. Just because people join these organizations does not make them immune from criticism.

An ambulance driver stole money from an elderly patient before taking her to hospital for treatment.

A married police officer embarked on an affair with a teenage escort that culminated in repeated rape, a courthas heard.

A doctor who admitted using his dead mother's blue parking badge left court to discover he had got another ticket for using it to park in

Etc. i won't get into what some good people in the churches get upto.

And there are bad ones in all walks.Just this week an eighteen year old in court charged with murder of a policeman. Ran him down in a stolen truck while trying to escape a burglary.Just take a minute to look at the police roll of honour trust pages. These people lost their lives trying to make the country safe for the rest of us.It may also surprise you but not all firearms holders are whiter than white.I have had contact with the police several times in the past few years due to lowlifes thinking they had a right to my property and I can only say they were very good and efficient. I witnessed a child being killed because a driver thought he was the best and should be able to drive exactly how he wanted it made me sick to the stomach yet they see it every day.And all some can whine about is a routine car stop once in a blue moon.

Yes coming from here i am well aware of the sacrifices some make in the police. My reply was to your walk in their shoes comment, i don't feel you have to do a particular job to criticise individuals in that job not that i have criticised them.

I most certainly do, but Its my experience that most are sensible enough, the general public though, well the rule swings the other way and the vast majority seem to believe they can behave however they want without any repercussions.

And you realise that some of the people these officers stop are complete tossers, don't you?

Which is generally the reason they were stopped in the first place.
