Pyropredator
Would it be possible/worth my time to apply for an FAC without being a member of a home office approved club? Bit of background I have held a SGC for 2 years, I shoot regularly over land where I control vermin using shotguns and air rifles. I have dabbled with the idea of going for a probationary in the past and even booked one (although unfortunately never attended due to a car accident on the way there.) but I don't see the point it going through all that to only be able to punch holes in paper. What are my chances of getting granted an FAC for something like 22 or 17hmr just for the control of small vermin? (rabbits, pigeons ect.) I have shot rifles in the past on my friends permission so he could vouch for my safety ect. Cheers James
kyska
If you have the need, and appropriate land to shoot over, go for it, there is no need to join a club. Edited October 16, 2015 by kyska
old man
Respectfully James you need to read and understand the Home Office Guidance?
shaun4860
You won't need a club if you have land to shoot on and a letter giving you permission to do so, The land you shot over already may have already been passed for FAC rifles

I know of many people who have previously shot on land using a shotgun, then they applied for a FAC rifle and were granted it. Usually .22LR to start with, and no requirement for them to be mentored. One I know was granted a .17HMR.

Vince Green
Its extremely variable, some people find it very easy some don't, but it will depend on the nature of the land you shoot over as much as anything.
kennett
Same here, helped with the Keepering over a few acres, got asked by the farmer to thin the rabbits out. Applied for 22lr, got it. After 6months asked for my buy/hold limit to be raised and asked nicely if they would open it which they did no questions asked. Never been anywhere near a club.
