An interesting read.

I wonder how many cases boil down to incorrect clothing and footwear when out in the country? I never wear shorts or trainers/sandals. Always long trousers tucked into wellies or shooting boots and gaiters as well with the latter.

Be out there enough and trouser in wellies will not stop them. Hate ticks with a passion, always end up with at least one on my somewhere after stalking one area. I strap the trouser bottoms over the boot very tight so nothing can set up them. I still get them. Just come back from same place and this is the first time in a very long time where I think I got away with it.

You get them on the out side of your clothes and you think your fine. Next day you get in the motor, go about your business and get ticks on you that have been sat on the head rest waiting for you.

Oh I so hate the bleedy things

After a day's stalking a few years back I found a tic believe it or not inside my belly button . I have a cousin who contracted Lymes in the states from a tick bite . She was very ill for a long time . Because of my awareness of this tick infestation I went to my GP . He took blood and the hospital said that I was clear ,but my GP insisted that he took another sample two weeks later ,this was also clear .he told me to look out for the symptoms that are flue like and tiredness and lethargic feeling all over .

I probably had over 20 bites this summer alone, they must be billions on my stalking ground. I also had a blood test after first bites (i had 12 on me in one go ) but i couldn't go to the GP for a blood test every week... I got no bullseye-type rashes around the bites so i hope i'm fine :hmm:

I work in a wood that is full of ticks. My old Golden retriever could pick up to 100 in a day. I get half a dozen on me every year , but as long as I take percautions can keep them down to a minimum.

Always wear wellies even in hot weather.

Avoid crawling around at ground level.

Avoid bracken like the plauge, ticks love it.

Do not let the dog on the furniture.

Likewise keep the dog off the back seat in the car.

Be very aware of ticks , anything you feel crawling on you needs an instant inspection.

Keep an eyeout for ticks all year round. My dogs have picked them up in mid winter , but the worse time is April- June and August September.

Treat your dog with Frontline or similar , but be aware that it will only kill attached ticks. They may still be in the fur ready tocrawl onto you.
