Guest rimotu66
I have just had my new BASC magazine through the door and was surprised/annoyed to see two begging letters included, one for a dogs home trust and one for the Gurkha's. Both worthy charities I am sure but they have gone in the recycle bin as all begging letters do. Do BASC get paid to send out these letters? SimpleSimon
In a word, yes. Charities operate like any other business, they spend a certain amount on marketing and expect to gain however many times more in donations (or sales) from the investment. sportsbob
Another way a charity get money is by people crossing deserts and climbing mountains.

shalfordninja33
It's additional revenue for the publisher. Basc will sell them on the basis that their magazine is posted to their membership, which is X number of people. The advertiser will typically get a higher response than if the insert was put into a normal newsstand title. For example, The magazine print, paper and postage may cost 80p or so to produce. If you can get 3 or 4 advertisers to pay £40.00 per 1'000 copies to put inserts in the bag with them it reduces the unit cost by 0.16p each. A relatively large percentage. Basic are unlikely to even be aware what's going in the bag with the mag as very often with this type of publication the advertising revenue will be generated by an external agency, who take a percentage and pass the rest back to basc. It's cheaper for the advertiser than taking a full page advert in the mag. The charity will print millions of Letters and break them down into batches which are then sent put to be put into a number of different publications. mick miller
Yeah, and I don't even like Gurkha's, I always pick them out of a Big Mac. Crikey, you lot can be miserable at times... They're both worthy causes and if you don't want to donate just pop them in the recycling. No mention of the two commercial companies advertising literature then? Twistedsanity
Basc is a business and exists to make a profit , everything else is second to that
David BASC
If you don't like the editorial content of the mag then the best bet is to get in touch with the editor of the mag at Marford Mill Its as easy as coming on here and posting about 'tat' and will be way more effective
drut
My copy was delivered at the same time as my Sporting Gun,both had a selection of "extras": easy enough to bin with the plastic wrappers if you want to.Plus side is I seem to be receiving less junk mail/charity mailshots. al4x
At least these days it's a little more excuse able now you can recycle the carp that comes along but the magazine does seem to come with a lot of it. The only bit I missed was no bush wear catalogue,
