Corvid control in Scotland

Recommended Posts

Recently myself and several other committee members of our angling association had a meeting with my SNP MSP to clear up some points about the ongoing, Wild Fisheries Review. Predator control came into the discussion which edged of into corvid control. The MSP was of the opinion you needed a license, not the general license, but something above this to shoot crow species. I have been shooing rooks and crows for many years and always assumed they were on the general license. I do know that a license is required to operate Larsen and other crow traps but as to shooting rooks and carrion crows, the occasional jay and the odd magpie have I been breaking the law?

As usual, politicians with no knowledge of the law.

Furthermore, even in the Socialist Peoples Republic of Scotland you do NOT require a licence to operate Larsen or other types of traps. The requirements you do need to follow are also detailed on the GL, including tags to carry information and identifiers.
