Dekers
Ok, bit of a new one to me, I now have 2 very good contacts about 20 miles apart in Normandy. I was there over last weekend. Both have the pigs running around and are happy for me to get involved and reduce their problems. I don't have any issues with general paperwork, European Firearms Passport, local permits etc. but anyone give me some idea of import issues back to the UK. Somehow I don't think the Ferry companies or UK authorities would be mad keen on me just bringing a few Boar home in the back in the Land Rover. What do I need to do this legally? Cheers

Blunderbust
I have brought back a few in the back of the pickup, I normally split them and bag it all up. Thank god I do have a pickup as I have also been in a group who all brought back certain parts in a mini bus and did it stink. I always go by the tunnel though. Vince Green
There are issues with domestic pigs carrying nasty diseases which can infect humans. Thats pretty well known but whether wild pigs are a risk I have no idea.
LeadWasp
Yes - check what is legal. A variety of diseases could came back in on the carcass and that's not meant to be disrespectful towards Deckers meat hygene capabilities. Then there is also the law. Further to Old Man's post for Dekers his local Div Animal Health Office is 0118 9596695 based at Block A, Government Buildings, Coley Park, Reading, Berks, RG1 6LY. They are usually used to report disease but I'm sure they will also be able to say, or point in the right direction, as to what is legal. Additionally there is this number:- Imports: animals and animal products Telephone: 03000 200 301Email: imports@apha.gsi.gov.uk The personal consumption exemptions appear to apply only to quantities of less than 1Kg Don't get me started on pet passports................. Benthejockey
I do know that during the foot and mouth saga dairy and meat products were restricted. In theory you could have gotten your ham sandwiches confiscated. I don't think the regulation was ever dropped but relaxed. I would imagine if its all bagged properly etc and you got caught with it you'd be fine as long as it wasn't for resale. I think if you got caught with half a hairy pig dripping over your back seats your quite likely to get it confiscated. A first 'offence' for exceeding you quota on cigarettes and alcohol would result in a confiscation and a warning not to do it again. If you're exceeding your allowance by an artic lorry load then you are going to get more than a slap on the wrists and lose your fags!
