Chrome book

Unless there is a specific need to do something offline or use specialist software then I would always recommend that people consider a Chromebook.

Just so few things to worry about compared to a regular laptop. Near instant startup, all software online so no updates to worry about, no virus concerns, everything can be stored in the cloud so no need to worry about local backups, etc. For most people they are the ideal thing.

You do need a decent internet connection and it is a different way of working for people that are used to a traditional pc, but for most they are great. Cheap as chips too.

If people need a full fat laptop with local storage and more specific software then I would recommend a Mac.

I've had a chrome book for a couple of years now and it's great for surfing the net and online documents as has been said. They self update around every six weeks. Just wish they had the option of using external storage to make them easier for everyday use.

Wife uses it more than the I pad for surfing as it has a proper keyboard.

You can use almost any external hard drive on your Chromebook that uses USB. They all have a SD card slot too.

Another thumbs up for Chromebooks. Some are better than others in terms of build quality. I ordered Dell ones for a project at work, and they get good feedback from the users.

I use a Dell one too, and I can't say I have turned my laptop on since getting it.

Cheers

Tried on my Chromebook and it wouldn't work as no software on it to open and run anything. Wonder if the updates fixed this. I haven't used it in a long while as wife and daughter have it mostly now.

You have to have it formatted in the right way so you may have the other. If you plug it in and it recognises it you can then format it using Chrome.
