Semi Auto cycling issue earlier today

Took a punt on a Revo Matrix despite my gut feeling saying steer clear. Anyway got to a local permission & tried it out. One shot would fire then nothing.. Manual extraction cocking it to the rear would eject the spent cartridge and it would fire again but again just 1 shot.

Rang the shop and they said the 30g cartridges may be a bit short. Im sure with my old Beretta AL391 it would cycle pretty much anything. Even tried a 32g but still just a single shot.

Anyway to cut a long story short I took it back and paid a bit more for a trusty Beretta again. AL390 this time but the quality is pretty much the same as my old 391. Given it a good deep clean tonight so I will get out again soon and see how she handles.

Anyone had any probs with certain cartridge length with a beretta?

The only s/a I have had that will cycle short cartridges down to 65 mm was a Benelli, the escort could handle 67 mm but did jam a bit to often, then in my other auto's beretta A400 xcel and winchester sx3 only used 70 mm carts.

If using 65 mm carts they can spin when feeding from the mag into the chamber and it can be a problem then to get the cart out.

i had a al391 urika that was fussy on anything under 70mm, 67mm was ok got a jam/ failure to feed as got hung up about 1 cartridge in 30 65mm was pointless to be honest. Got a craving for another semi auto this year bought a baikal mp153 3.5inch chamber and for a cheap not thrill gun it's been the best auto i've had near had a single jam it will cycle 65mm hull comp X perfectly which was a big shock to me i've even mixed the cartridge up like a clear pigeon 32g 70mm then a 89mm mammoth steel 42g followed by 65mm comp X still faultless then mix all sorts and it just works spot on for a gun that's second hand fraction of the price of the urika. im tempted to buy the new baikal mp 155 how good the mp 153 it been

Hi

I have a a bretta 3.5" extrema and it will handle anything I can trho at it. Will take same 65mm / 2.5" game carts as the s/s and hammer gun. Will do a round of clays on 28g no issues.

Son has a 3.5" escort that doesnt like the 65mm game carts, however if only loaded with 1 in breach and1 in mag is fine but 3 causes jams. Clays not too much issue as can only load 2 at local clay ground. Will cycle large 3" & 3.5" carts fine.

So if issue on cycling shorter try with only 2 if it makes any sense (ie not much point if bought for pigeon). We tend to use our autos for steel shot for the ducks and have other guns for walked up stuff

Likewise, I've used over a thousand 28g and 32g Fiocchis through my MP153, with nary a fte or ftf to report, all 67 mm cases in a 3 1/2" chambered gun.

snap I have a mp153 since August and it will cycle 28g 65mm hull compX with out a hitch I'm blown away how good the gun performs it's been more reliable and the urika I had. I'm tempted to get the new m**** just cause it a tad nicer to look at
