Old farrier
I dont think that is correct, Peterborough is 44 miles from its nearest depot so there will be no charge and there are lots of depots on the south coast Exeter Bournmouth and Crawley to mention a few. That was the price quoted I'm assuming there depot here not there However I will check prices again as Itl be cheaper to go and deliver it Feel free to ask them yourself if you think I made it up All the best Of
David BASC
For clarification, on the letter that came out from TNT it lists just 24 depots around the UK that come under this scheme, that's the point I think, they are: Birmingham Liverpool Leeds Weybridge Abingdon Bristol Wellingborough Maidstone Southampton Kidderminster Rotherham Ramsbottom Exeter Llantrisant Cannock Thetford Durham Carlisle Bellshill Stockport Milton Keynes Crawley Nottingham Barking
islandgun
Hm sweet, I just paid for and put a deposit on two cheap singles and see Carlise my nearest depot so that 350m at £1-00 a mile,,,,,,,,,,,
Dave-G
Gunshop i am dealing with at the moment got the letter monday this week informing them it came into effect same day mon 11th. My gun was due out today, so no notice at all. The excuse TNT are using is that it is a more secure service. I can't blame them TBH, imagine what sort of knee jerk reactions and further controls we'd get if one went missing with a dodgy driver and got used somewhere. Seems like a good time to support the local RFD a bit more. Edited January 12, 2016 by Dave-G
saddler
Only one TNT depot to cover all of Scotland. ..!! Great business model there. NOT. Will stick to using Parcelforce24 for £
Blackbart
It's ok supporting your local rfd but if they haven't got what you want then the only option is to look further afield. Either TNT dont want the buisness or they are the first to do it and the rest will follow.
Ziplobb
I have the letter and was going to post it but The images are bigger than the file size and I don't know how to deal with that. The situation is quite bad really particularly if you are on an Island like I am. We have relied on TNT for so long and for the service to be pulled the way it has been is unprofessional. There is something sinister going on and I can't help thinking that whatever has caused TNT to make this decision will manifest itself elsewhere. it's not about money for TNT because the GTAvaccount is straight into their bottom line. The van will still pull up outside my shop everyday, the salaries will still be paid to the drivers and the depots will still be open. ninja_fox
If your gun needs any work on it & then needs sending off for proof (and back again) think how much you're going to have to pay for that...
David BASC
BASC trade members can access the special deals we have arranged with Parcel Force which are way less expensive then the new TNT rates, we also have deals with other couriers that our trade members can use, again, way less cost then the new TNT rates

Ziplobb
David - Parcelforce are quoting me 6 weeks to access those BASC terms - I am marooned here on the Isle of Wight - I cannot do any RFD transfers and our gunsmithing service has come to a halt as there was no notice from TNT (whole we have used for almost 30 years) - they have had the RFD and we have been trading since 1957 but they still want to do a load of checks
Vince Green
I bought a rifle in the summer from a dealer well over 200 miles away. I elected to drive up and get it, so I had a good look at it before I bought it and had a great day out. Much better arrangement in my opinion. Plus I bought a load of ammo that I didn't know he had until I got there.
David BASC
Parcel Force will try to get new account up in less time than this, but at the mo its about 4 weeks...but we have arrangements with other couriers too - see here: http://basc.org.uk/basc-trade/trade-member-benefits/ World Options are setting up accounts much quicker, I spoke to them earlier today David

That's great and it is a best way 😋 However factor this in on you 200 mile journey a ferry crossing each way (cost) Remember your traveling with a gun so the paperwork incurred on a passenger vessel Then add in the ammo a hazardous cargo and the paperwork on a passenger vessel these items must be separated Large quantities of ammo are required to go on a specific ferry (hazardous goods ) Please bear in mind that this journey could be the same distance for a repaire or service TNT have always provided a brilliant service and worked within the bounds of the regulations not sure where there going with this pricing thing All the best Of
Ziplobb
There are all sorts of reasons why going to get a gun in person in not practical . As OF says it's hard on the Island and many people simply don't have the time. I certainly have not. Will try the other courer you mention David thank you. Bewsher500
Heard a rumour today that as of today TNT have increased their courier charge for any rifle/shotgun fron £20 to £50 ! That's going to make the price of guns rise and the cheap guns be not worth the bother unless they are face to face only as the margins arent big enough to ship. funny because TNT always had massively reduced rates for GTA member RFD's and they never hit £20 per gun! David BASC
Yes they did, but as the letter posted above shows, its all change

And I think TNT are the only carrier of reloading powder that will deliver to a domestic address. David BASC
PF will carry sec 1 ans 2 firearms and airguns for BASC members, PAR freight are Section 5 cleared, Worth discussing powder transfers with World Options Contacts for the couriers (as above) we are working with are on the trade section of the BASC web site Ammunition couriers are an issue I agree, we are working on it and will do all we can to help the industry, its sad we had no warning of this decision by TNT
rbrowning2
This from FES website TNT claim that these changes are as a consequence of the recent terrorist incidents across Europe and what TNT refer to as "heightened security and risk". Yet again we the law abiding sportsperson is being xxxxxxx for no fault of are own.
