Underdog
Picked up a tidy AyA cosmos today. Fist shot got a woodcock. Simple going away shot. Jess helped to find it. Next shot was a cock bird. Unfortunately it dropped in a brook. Amazingly jess pulled the flapping bird out and held it until still! I finished off with a right to left woodcock. Four shots three birds, I missed one. I think it fits 😀 U.
fortune
Good result. How do you get a left & right with a singe barrel? Did you mean that you got two consecutive shots at woodcock?
oowee
Cracking christening well done. I hope it continues to shoot so well.

ditchman
that was the first 12bore i had.........32" barrell and choked as tight as a pressure washer lance......the bloody extractor was rubbish tho.... every time i fired it ...the forend nearly jumped off....it was snap/shut type if i remember........ ...i much prefer the single barrell Baikel, which i use on occasion.. my mate had a single it was a BSA snipe..?..... Underdog
Those snipe are nice. This cosmos is an ejector model.
ditchman
Those snipe are nice. This cosmos is an ejector model. sorry thats what i meant.....the extractor on the ejector was rubbish...it only threw the cartridges half out.....i did a lot of rough walked up pheasant shooting with it....it is where i learnt patience ...........letting the bird get a good distance before you pulled the trigger......shooting them at close quarters with No 5 1 1/4oz gallyons "high shot" or eley grand prix...tore them in half....god knows what the choke was.. Underdog
Yes the ejection is only just enough on this one. Good old Baikal's spit them out.

The second bird was flying right to left Thanks gents, my arms don't ache, wallet is not throbbing with pain and some grub coming up. When I mis read a left & right on woodcock with a single barrel, I thought wow that must have been a pretty quick reload. Anyway it was a good outing. Are all of the cosmos's a bit weak on the ejection front? I had a BSA Snipe donks ago and I shot well with it. The gun was a bit basic and went in a trade in against my first double 12. The ejector was quite powerful on that.
ditchman
I tell you ....you did well to drop a woodcock with one of those............i would be hard pushed to do so..i do like to use a single now and then ...but i dont shoot as well after using the sxs

Non ejector in good nick. I can not believe the bore D. Says .710" on the barrel! That has to be close to 13g! Choke measures .680"!
ditchman
on the Baikal i have i use 24gm loads......and it works very nicely.....30gm loads are a bit much for me....

malkiserow
Great to see you shooting and owning a gun younger than you for a change I do love seeing those historical pieces you have in your cabinet (s)
Underdog
how does the weight of the AYA compare to a muzzle loader ? My .45&.58 are certainly heavier. So is the double of course. The 20g flintlock trade gun is about the same weight and the short Bess a little more. Thanks fellers.
jam1e
Nice shooting UD. How did you find the recoil on such a light gun? My father in law gave me a hammer action very light single barrel 12 bore he bought new in 1950. Boy does it have some recoil !..... What does Woodcock taste like?? Cheers. J. Recoil is fine mate, the pad someone fitted helps as does buying something that fits well. Woodcock is gamey, like woodpigeon. I make a meatloaf with it. Onion , pepper, bacon, bread crumbs. Slices great for sandwich's or warmed and with mash and gravy.
